Thank you! I live in Dallas, although I notice the nearest office to me is Austin.

Can I do the training remotely?

It sounds like you are enjoying the role, which is great news. That's very encouraging!

Is there any reason why it's limited to certain states, given that it's a work from home position?

I have no idea - originally they were only a Texas based company but have expanded globally in the last few years. Think it something to do with State taxes.

It seems there is some initial training, perhaps that is why?

The requirements as others have said are odd, for what is certainly in Pounds a minimum wage job.

I assumed scam when I first read it, does not seem to be the case.

You would have thought the most obvious location would be in the UK, but then they have asked for native speakers.:D

Yeah, I'd probably not be accepted either. No degree, but I ran a string of magazines in the UK, which included managing staff, writing, proof-reading, page layout and much more - not to mention meeting deadlines!

Re: Need a part-time job?

I sent in an application for this job. The pay doesn't seem to be quite what the OP was saying.
From their letter to me:

"Content analysts in training receive $8.50/hr. Moderation time during training period is paid $8.50/character hour

(defined below). Training is usually completed in the first 6 weeks.

After training, the base pay is $10 per hour, with performance based variable compensation up to $14/hr. Variable com-
pensation is determined by quality and speed of work.
"

I don't think $8.50 per hour for six weeks is very good at all and $10-$14 per hour after that isn't exactly great pay either for someone with a degree....

Stuck at home with little kids it might be nice pin money.

I can think of quite a few people earning minimum wage of just above and lots earning nothing at all.

These days depending on what your degree is in, doesn't necessarily lead to higher earnings.

I've worked with plenty of people over the years in low paying jobs who had various degrees, but no actual skills, just a degree, and were not able to find good jobs because they lacked a skill.

For many a bachelors is just the new HS diploma.

I didn't know about the first rate and that has been introduced since they started formal training for this position. The rates quoted here are for American moderators (no other language skills) UK and other foreign language moderators get paid additional $2 an hour. At least that is how I am paid. Yes, not great rate for someone with a degree but its easy work.

Sounds like it is akin to being paid to be on BE?

Got a rejection email this morning. I guess they don't want people who are REALLY qualified to do what they need!

Nope, just the application.
