that is based at home? The company I work for Bazaarvoice, is looking for UK English moderators. Basically we moderate reviews of product for companies like Argos, Boots, Tesco, Debenhams, Marks & Spencers etc plus a numerous companies in the States.

You have to be a fast reader (eventually 50,000 characters an hour) and know UK English as opposed to US English. Have to be based the following states, TX, CO, FL, GA, IL, KS, LA, MA, NC, NJ, NY, or WA and have authorization to work in the States.

When I was a professional proofreader, I didn't have a bachelor's degree. Bachelor's degrees are the new high school diploma.

Reflect that I'm a professional IT analyst and documentation specialist with publishing, marketing, and copy-editing experience, and they nevertheless would refuse to speak to me (I'm assuming) unless I had a bachelor's degree. Which I do not in fact have. Work experience counts for nothing these days. Not even for scam part-time job postings for fake online reviews.

If not proof reading but data mining and working to client's guidelines but yes, does seem extreme to ask for degree. It pays $12-16 depending on various factors but most people fall in the $14 range - training is 6 wks. (well it was, might be more now)

It is constantly changing, so in the 4 yrs I have been there I have seen lots of changes. Max hours are 28, 16 min and hours fairly flexible. You can do an hour a time or blocks of hours. I used to do 4 at time but the system changed about a year ago and now I work 2 hr blocks as I find my concentration flags after 2.5hrs. Clock is 24hrs as its a global company so work is coming from all around the world. I have enjoyed working there and it give me a lot more flexibility than a normal job.

Luckily for me, I already make more than that, with no degree :D

If this latest round of layoffs affects me, my unemployment would pay more than that.

The only reason I'd go for this is if it paid health benefits and even then I'd only do it if I wasn't an "independent contractor", which is shorthand for "deal with your own damn taxes and such, we can't be arsed".

It'd be OK as a second gig for a bit of extra cash. Not that I have the time for that, but someone might. Be a shame to be ruled out just because you don't have a BA in Media Studies :lol:

Yeah, you'd've expected them to just test your ability to proofread. Dyslexics probably shouldn't apply.....Although I met a guy once who claimed he had severe dyslexia. I asked him what he did for a living. He said he worked for Royal Mail, decoding people's addresses !!!! Honestly.

well, really is aimed at stay at home mums and they have marketed that way before.

After a couple of years you get some paid holiday time, you can take 4 weeks of unpaid leave at any time (aimed at expat mums who need to go back to their home country from time to time) and you are not an independent contractor, so apart from the degree ( there are mods who don't have degrees, work equivalent), its an OK job for a trailing spouse like me.

Also they are very good at looking after their employees when the time arises like now when I have dash off to France to sort out my ailing parents. Last year, I took a total of 8 weeks off when my father-in-law was ill and then died. Because it remote based, there is not a lot of social interaction but they do encourage moderators who live within distance of each other to meet up. We have a little UK group that meet up a few times a year and the company picks up the tab.

Having got the grand age of 50, being a stay at home mum with little work experience, the most I was ever considered for was a retail job which paid $8 an hr plus my hours were all over the place from one week to another. If you like meeting people or see work as a social thing as well employment, it probably not for you.

I only put up here to see if anyone was interested, knowing its not what most people would consider a great job. So stop bashing what you don't know about.

Jay Leno claims to have dyslexia but if he can read a teleprompter and seldom make a mistake in his monologue, then I must have extremely severe dyslexia.
