You can visit a doctor/nurse in the US for an independant visit. I have no idea how much your specific tests cost, but for example, a woman's annual visit & check costs about $60-$85. I went to the dermotolgist to have a mole looked at; she offers a discount when you're not using insurance, so my $100 visit was $80.
If you only have a couple of checkups during your VISIT here (suggest your ticket be for less than 90 days btw, after reading your other thread).

But my husband can't get his head around paying for ANY visit to the doctor (he's lived here near 6 years now). He jammed his finger a few weeks ago and I can NOT get him to go spend $50 to check it out.

If you are guaranteed to make a claim, which it sounds like you will, you will either get turned down or pay a nice premium. Healthcare is not cheap and can run $100s, $1000s, $10,000s and significantly higher.

My DH also takes blood thinners and the healthcare insurance company sends us a statement when they pay out a claim for his blood work and it is normally $265 for the blood test and then the cost of the doctor's visit which is another $85. He, of course, doesn't pay that because he has US healthcare insurance only only pays $20 for the service. Ask your lady if her physician would be willing to see you and arrange for your testing while you are there and what the cost to you would be.

I don't believe that travel health insurance will cover this but you can always ask the company before you take it out.

I'll slightly revise my original statement. Firstly, most travel insurance will only cover emergency stuff. Secondly, you may end up with a rider saying anything that happens to you that is a direct or indirect result of pre-existing conditions will not be covered.

That is what I have always believed travel insurance to be.
