Multi Region DVD players
Hiya
Me and the ball and chain have just come back from trying to buy a multi-region DVD player as I have a few DVDs from home I'd like to be able to watch over here. There was nothing in any of the usual stores we went to until finally we went in best buy and were told that multi-region DVD players aren't available in this country. What the hell!? Is this true? Anybody in the know about this one?

Follow this thread: http://britishexpats.com/forum/showthread.php?t=266335 and buy the CyberHome 300...I bought it and a coworker of mine bought it and it works great once you tweak the code.
I only have 2 UK DVDs (Spaced Series I and Spaced Series II), and they occassionally do this tiny skip-like thing, but I will make that small insignificant sacrifice to watch my beloved shows.

I just bought my wife, who is an air force reservist stationed away from home,
a jWIN JD-VD750 dvd player/home theatre system from the Air Force Exchange for $150.00, it plays back both ntsc and pal formats.
If you don't know any body with access to the Military Exchange, you can try
www.romeohifi.com they seem to have a wide range of region free dvd players available.
Good Luck

Re: Multi Region DVD players
We have just purchased what I think is the all-time greatest (cheap) multi-region DVD player... from Amazon... for $65.
The Philips DVP642 can be "hacked" to play multi-region DVDs by simply typing a three-digit code into the remote control.
But it does much, much more than just that!
It also plays just about every video, audio and picture standard ever thought of, including VideoCD, SuperVideoCD, .avi, .mpg, MP3 Audio, MPEG-4 video, DivX 3.11/4.x/5.x, Kodac PhotoCD, Jpeg files burned direct onto a CD and about 10 other standards.
Oh, it also has a built-in converter to convert PAL vido to NTSC for display on US televisions.
And did I mention progressive-scan, component video out, s-video out zoom-on-DVD etc.?
And to top it all, it looks good. Super-thin, silver, with an LCD screen that changes to reflective silver when it's not in use.
Check it out here:

It mentions only converting video signal only on VCD...so you tried it with dvd's?

From what I've read it will play Xvid files, but file may need re-coding first.

I just rather like the idea of being able to play divx and xvi movies, problem is though getting a few that are ogm these days, ogg vorbis is great for dual audio and subs, but don't know how or if they'll play on these players...would be nice though
