I tried to reply about Doctors but I guess it was too long for a quick reply, so Doctors Multi-Practice - Kelsey-Seybold and Dental Plum Associates. Google them. Both great. Schools not my bag but I hear from friends that Katy and Sugarland, both expat areas, are good. Cheers

It's a world that has much more experience in US matters than yours. You seem to have stubbornly decided not to investigate what will happen to your insurance, despite the fact you are assuredly going to be providing work for the medical billers should you have your child over here.

Thanks again for your help Dave, much appriciated!
I doubt you have more experiance than some of my family who have lived in the US for the excess of 45yrs and they have married in to born and bread 100% Americans... I am not being stubborn against it, it's just you have taken no notice to the fact that yes we ARE covered and yes we have MONEY!
As stated serveral times now, I was looking for info on doctors and schools, non of which you have helped with, so I would be greatful if you could either offer advice on what I asked for, or ignore my post.

I would really make sure you double check with the insurance company. Even if you are already covered but not living here in Texas some companies will still put a pre-existing clause in. I really hope this doesn't happen to you but it is worth checking ahead of time.
Also depending on who you are insured with is also how to find a doctor or in your case an OB/GYN. You have to have all your pre-natal appointments with an OB/GYN, your regular GP is not involved at all...that is how insurance companies work here So your first job is to find out who is on your insurance list. Husbands HR dept should supply you with a book giving details of in-net work doctors, dentists and specialists.
I hope this helps...

Good point.
It is also a good idea to have all current medical records from this and previous pregnancy with you. OB's always want as much previous history as possible.
The Womans Hospital of Houston is very highly regarded and have lots of great doctors. They have satellite offices in all the surrounding areas so League City/Friendswood area will probably have them.

Right... FB!
I have just called and spoken to the HR & Benefits dept at the HQ in Houston and YES we are covered, she is going to fax the details through to me, would you like me to scan it in along with my banking info and anything else you would like to question, birth certificates, passports?!?!
She also informed me if I had the child while still in the UK I would be covered if I chose not to use the NHS.
Right... so now can I get info on schools!

Sarah, I'm glad to help. My wife and I are both from Aberdeen and there are plenty of us in Houston, all ready to lend a hand. DaveKC

Kindergarten age I think is 5ish maybe 6 so any type of schooling for your 3 year old would be at a private daycare/nursery environment. That would all depend really where you were living and probably something you would want to check out yourself when you arrive

We signed my wife up for my health insurance plan the month before she gave birth; she ended up being covered by her plan, and mine, for the birth, we didn't even pay the $500 "deposit" required by the hospital.
It actually seemed like quite a sweet deal when you think the extra insurance for a few months was less than $500.
