Default Moving to Denver HELP please

Hi All, im new to this site, but heard great things. I am moving to the US with my family to the Highlands Ranch area of Denver , we have our L1A visas etc already. I start the job from the UK in July and am required to be in the USA for October and February, my family and I will move for good in May after my eldest sons GCSE exams.

My question is does anyone know :

1. Good sites to get short term business accommodation rentals (1 month) furnished if possible.
2. Do you need an SSN to open a US bank account? I had heard you dont?
3. Details of any relocation companies that are really good.
4. Finally the process for enrolling my 3 kids in schools?

Any help you can give will be really appreciated.

All the best

Chris

1) Regus specialises in small and short term serviced office rentals.

2) No, a SSN is only technically required for an interest bearing a/c, though the USA PATRIOT Act requires a "government issued ID number" for opening any a/c, it does not have to be SSN.

Unfortunately some banks, and many bank employees, mistakenly think a SSN is required. A conversation with a supervisor or manager is sometimes required to point out that a passport number or DL number is sufficient to meet the USA PATRIOT Act requirements.

Proof of residence at address for the school and vaccination records, then ring the school district or the school and that's that.

Sorry, I misread your question, I thought you needed business accomodation. You need, effectively a long term hotel ..... there aren't very many of them, and they're quite expensive, or at least the quality ones are. To give you an idea, there is a chain called "Intown Suites", and they are at the bargain basement end of the business. ..... Googling for furnished apartments mostly seems to give student-type accommodation, I think you may find what you're looking for Googling for <extended stay hotel>, with the caveat that you avoid Intown Suites unless you are planning to buy a shotgun when you arrive and write a book titled "Why Not to Stay at Intown Suites" when you return to the UK.

For the record, I once stayed in an Intown Suites for two months when I needed medium term accommodation at my own expense.

You're moving on an intra-company transfer, presumably (L visa), so is your employer not providing assistance/information with any of these issues?

You mention GCSE. It is often really tough for teenagers to move countries unless a. they like the new country, and b. they can stay in the new country. Are you intending for the move to be permanent and if so, what's the plan to get a green card?

Yes I think I would ask the company about accommodation as it's a transfer.

I don't know about Denver, here you can get some apartments on short leases, and could hire furniture.

What is the relocation company going to do?

Oh I think you mean you want them for the long-term part of the move.

I would try just googling for apartments

And for a cold location, not hold much hope in the winter and look for a sublet.

Which in the US are almost always unfurnished, which is not what he wants.

Unless you have money to burn, if you are moving on your own dime, you really don't need a relocation agent. You're going to pay them thousands and get nothing tangible in return.

Oh right it probably is very different from here. We found an apartment complex online and rented furniture. This kind of thing.
New Image Furniture Leasing - Denver Colorado Furniture Rental

That looks to be 2 months min, I don't know if those places will do 1 month.

I know someone in long term furnished rental in Denver, but not Highlands Ranch.

Wrong side of town for me.

It doesn't have to be business/ corporate lets (which are often just glorified hotel suites, and not that much fun with kids). When we moved over, I rented holiday villas from this website for a couple of weeks at a time (we lived in 3 different ones, as we wanted to try out different areas of the city before committing to one for our longer term 'proper' rental).

HomeAway: Vacation Rentals, Beach Houses, Cabins & More

This is another good website for short-term, furnished rental places: https://www.airbnb.com
