I save significantly more in taxes than I pay out in health insurance and medical expenses.
With respect Pulaski that is probably because *touch wood* you are of good health and have no real need for healthcare apart from routine physicals etc

Try having a chronic illness such as diabetes or COPD and you would probably find the dollars spent on meds and specialist consults etc would be an immense drain on your finances.

Which is why I said "I", not "you" or "most people", but I am not unique, there are many people in generally good health. Unfortunately there are probably many more who haven't "run the numbers" and have not discovered that they would be better off paying less for insurance and accepting a higher deductible. It took us several years to finally reach that conclusion.

I do agree that the US is a bad place to have chronic medical issues.

Please be very careful and get whatever you need in order. I spent 3 weeks in hospital in February with double pneumonia and sepsis. The bill was $265K, luckily I have insurance thru husband's work so all I paid was the copay for the er which was $200.
