I recently scanned the ones in my purse I hadn't checked because I knew I didn't win a good prize and got $21 from three of them. I'll get a ticket just to be sure I have a chance.

How much have you paid out? How much have received back?

If I won $290 million I'd still go to work. Wouldn't you?

(I'm defining 'work' here as all the effort it would take each day to decide which pub in what city in what country to visit today. Could be quite a hard task I reckon).

I just been told that you have to pay tax on your winnings in the US!

You'd still be left with a nice chunk of money but that'd piss me off!

federal tax only - not state tax.
also - you only get the full amount if you take it in 26 yearly payments, if not, you get something like 65% (182mill from 290mil)

I really don't think I'm ever going to scoop the jackpot, but the "dream" of at least having the chance to win is worth the $1 investment I make each draw.

Some people say the lottery is a tax on the stupid, but actually, the little dream I have of what I'd do with the money is worth the price. If that makes me stupid, then so be it.

One of my favourite pastimes is "Property porn" - right now my fav is www.realtor.com - carmel-by-the-sea, CA
With the $1 ticket, I can dream that maybe one day I'll live in a house right on the beach - those dreams are priceless.

Whenever I buy my ticket it's with the sincere belief that I am, actually going to win!

I'd be one of the anonymous winners though. I wouldn't even tell some of my siblings.

Most I've ever won on the Lottery is £96 whilst at University or $ about 4 months after arriving in Indiana.

You've got to be in it to win it. I'll get a ticket and then if I won I could use the money to pay for my medical bills after having a heart attack!

Sadly there are only 3 states in the US wher you can remain anoymous (sp?) - the first thing I'd do would be to change my name legally, pick up the prize as Jane Smith (or something) and then legally change my name back again.

Man - I'm gonna be so gutted to lose out on that 108 million. Still, never mind ey? I've heard $182 million still goes quite a way.

So what if you did win it? Where would you live? I'd def have places in both the USA and UK. Not totally sure where but praps Southampton in England and Denver & New Orleans in the USA. Praps somewhere near London & on the East Coast as well though - the flights would be easier from there.
