Diana's love rat hits cheesy low

Princess Diana's kiss-and-tell lover has bolstered his title as Britain's biggest cad, sparking a public backlash for blabbing on TV about his royal sex romps.

British newspapers yesterday gave smarmy ex-Army Capt. James Hewitt a flogging in print for crudely boasting in a new documentary that "it's true" Diana was good in bed.

The Daily Mail called Hewitt "overweight and seedy" and outed him as "a gigolo with older women." The Daily Telegraph headlined their story on the scoundrel: "Not So Big Boy."

The Sun took it a step further, sending its tallest reporter to stalk Hewitt in a rat suit and needle him with cracks like, "What's it like to meet another rat?" The shame-on-you crusade erupted ahead of a documentary, set to air in Britain next week, about Hewitt hawking love letters Diana sent him while he was serving in the 1991 Gulf War.

In an excerpt of the program, a friend of Hewitt's mimics him saying, "Princess Diana was one hell of a ----." Hewitt laughs at the cameras and says, "It's true." Hewitt, 45, also says he was doing Prince Charles a favor by keeping company with Diana.

"Charles was probably grateful someone was looking after his wife when he was shagging Camilla Parker Bowles," Hewitt crows in the program airing on Britain's Channel 4.

The TV tell-all comes after he dished dirt on his affair with Diana in Anna Pasternak's 1994 book "Princess in Love." He did it again in his autobiography, "Love and War," published two years after Diana was killed in a 1997 Paris car crash.

Butler on the attack

While the British public appears horrified by Hewitt's latest ungentlemanly antics, it also seems fascinated.

Diana's ex-butler and confidant Paul Burrell was so peeved that he pummeled Hewitt in a column in yesterday's The Mirror.

"Cad. Rat. Slimeball. Disgrace. Snake. ... None of these words comes even close to summing up this disgusting creature," wrote Burrell.

The uproar also seems to have touched a nerve with Hewitt's ex-girlfriend Emma Stewardson.

"Everybody wishes that he would just go away - the royal family, the whole population of the country, me, my family," she told The Sun. "For heaven's sake, shut up."

In the documentary, Hewitt seems to anticipate the fallout and sounds as if he welcomes it.

"I never wanted to be a cad, but I guess I am, so, if you've been handed a bunch of lemons, make some lemon juice," says Hewitt, 45, long nicknamed the Desert Rat. He doesn't hide from his primary purpose for trashing Diana's memory — money. Media reports said Hewitt sought $16 million for Diana's letters. She wrote in one of them: "Boy, oh boy, does the earth shake when I get a letter from my desert friend."

Diana's children, Princes William and Harry, are said to be upset over Hewitt peddling pillow talk their mom wrote in letters to him.

Hewitt says in the program that he respects the princes' feelings but adds, "I'd like the letters to go for as much as they could possibly get."

it's not about the Royal Family. It's not about Diana's morals.

It's about going out with the girl next door, girl at work, girl you meet in bookstore or for that matter paying a hooker.

It's about keeping your mouth shut & your thoughts private.

Just shows the guy is another loud mouth worthless piece of garbage.

I guess it further adds to the female view of most guys.

Maybe I should have titled the thread,
"Ashamed to be a guy".

Ps. Even worse that Diana's children, who have nothing to do with her morals have to read it. I guess I'm alone on this one.

Funny thing, I had 3 females & 5 brit guys email me saying "What a jerk low life this guy is". I am obviously alone on here, the Brits back home are more offended.

If stone broke is living off an Army Captains pension ..... then yep hes broke ....... my husband and I dont earn in a year what he gets as a so called pension.
British forces officers pensions are a joke ... most are retired on full pay, most are given a promotion 6 months before they leave just to boost that meager pension.

Either way a Captain in the Army is 'supposed' to be honourable ... this guy wouldnt know honour if it hit him in the face .... what a disgrace !

Oh you're not alone Frank- royal message boards have hung drawn and quartered him LOL. Hewitt has been labelled a cad and shunned by some of his fellow officers for a couple of years, and he's getting blasted in the UK for this latest- stupid bugger that he is.
For a long time he's been whingeing about being called a cad- and then he does something like this. That he made a book was bad enough, his kiss and tell sent him to the ranks of gutter, but selling Diana's private letters is the lowest of the low. A few years back - when the Spencer family was trying to get the letters back from him- he promised the Judge that he would never ever reveal the contents of the letters to anyone or part with them ever...what a sleazeball. He's getting blasted in the US too- even my local radio station was slamdunking him last week.. I really hope no-one buys the letters.

I think it's very unfair to liken Hewitt to a rat! Rats are sweet, furry and loveable, and would never snitch on a lover! To liken him to any animal is an insult to that animal! I prefer to think of him as a UFO--unbelievably frightful oaf.

Agreed. But after what he's now saying, it might be a bit unfair to call him any name- the man is obviously mentally ill IMO
He's now trying to get an injunction to stop the documentary being broadcast- HE has been treated "scandalously" - he claims.

He now says he will hand over the letters to Prince Charles..IF he asks nicely- and he wants to be invited to tea (with Charles). But in the meantime he will still consider a private buyer......
