The long and the short of it is...
...that I'm new here, having just found this site yesterday.
So, what's my story?
Well, my name is Gary, I'm 30 years old and am an Englishman living over here in the USA. Originally I'm from a little town in Kent called 'Gravesend'.
So what am I doing over here? Well, it's a long story to be honest, but the short version is that about 4 years while working for Birds Eye Wall's (frozen food and ice cream) in Surrey I happened across a Friendsearch messageboard for my town (kind of like friendsreunited, but tailored by town) and started reading.
There was a message on there from a girl over here in the USA, looking for someone from my town that she had met once when he visited the USA. Turns out that I knew the guy, so decided to help her by looking him up and letting him know that she was looking for him.
Alas, by the time I found him he had moved with no forwarding address and it was my sad duty to pass on the news to her.
Anyway, we got to talking, emailing, phone conversations and things just spiralled. We'd been talking every day for about a year when I was told that I had some holiday time (at work) that I needed to take, so I decided to come to the USA, spend 1 week with her and 2 weeks travelling. Well, that was in July of 2001, and things went so well in that first week that I ended up staying for all 3 weeks!
Our relationship soon developed and it became obvious that in the long term we wanted to be together. I made 6 visits in total between July of 2001 and September of 2002 when I finally moved here for good. I moved here instead of her moving to England because she has children, I do not, so it made sense for me to come here.
We got married in October of 2002 in Florida - a lot of my family and friends flew in from England to be there.
Judging by other postings on this site some people have had real trouble with the INS, so I guess I should be grateful that I submitted my forms in December of 2002 and was processed fairly quickly, receiving my work permit and SS card just 10 weeks later. I received my Permanent Resident Card in November of 2003.
We are living in Kansas City at present, but the company I am working for is based in North Carolina. I am an IT Consultant specialising in C++ Factory Automated Material Handling Systems.
In my spare time I enjoy F1 motor racing and playing darts (indeed, I am the captain of a local team). For my sins, I am also a Spurs fan, but given the events of the past few weeks I won't elaborate on that!
I will do my utmost to contribute to the site with relevant comment.
All the best
Gary

Welcome Gary, nice to meet you!
I'm Brigie (a little shy and quiet, but I do come out of my shell on occasion)
Way up here in Connecticut, always looking for Brits to have a natter with.

The long and the short of it is...
Hi B,
I have a distant relative in Enfield, CT. It is my mothers cousin, who moved to the USA before I was born. I've never met her, but my mother went over for a couple of weeks about 3 years ago to visit her and loved it!

Station Avenue indeed. I worked for BEW from Jan 1996 to August 2002. I lived in Walton from August 1996 to August 2002.
It is a nice place, with some nice riverfront pubs. I have many friends there and miss them all.

I lived in Hersham in 1973 for a year. I can't remember the road name, but it was near W+H station and it was the road that went to Weybridge.
