Ohhh....what did I miss?

To the OP, meetup.com might be a good option.

At the risk of starting another thread again, you missed nothing but the usual glut of drama queens, hand wringers and unbelievably funny posts mixed in.

Sue stripped out the, er, controversial posts and created the "Cough, cough ... " thread in the Trailer Park. :) .... Which mostly, if not entirely, came after my post above.

What was the original thread about?

Something about a paramedic from Croydon who wanted to move to Arizona.

Hi All,

I am looking for advice on the long winded process for application to the US to become a Registered Nurse (have registration in Ireland & UK).
I have been looking it all up for a very long time but find it difficult to begin the process.

Anyone out there who is in the situation or done this before and would like to share some information would be greatly appreciated!!

Thankyouu:D

Hi Keeva, here's another link you may find handy: http://www.rn.ca.gov/applicants/lic-exam.shtml

I did it in 2002. It's a long tedious process but it can be done. These are the steps I took.

1) You need to find someone willing to sponsor you for a Greencard (an employer)
2) You need a VisaScreen certificate, there are quite a few steps to this and it takes a while. You can read about it at http://www.cgfns.org/sections/programs/vs/vssteps.shtml
3) You need to apply to the CA BRN to sit and take the NCLEX RN exam http://www.rn.ca.gov/applicants/lic-exam.shtml
4) At various points some of these agencies will want biometric data from you.
5) Once you pass the NCLEX and get your VisaScreen then you will eventually go to the US embassy in London for interview and a medical exam.
6)Fly

It took me about 18 months start to finish. This is an abridged version.

Methinks things have greatly changed since 2002...some 11 years ago.

Actually they are pretty much the same. Research is often best before posting snide comments.

There were significant changes in the visa requirements for nurses in 2005.

Not if you look at post No5, where it states that nursing visas were stopped in 2006.
