Home would be anywhere I wanted, for several months at a time.

For example, I could do Canada for 6 months, US for 3, Australia for 3, pay no taxes anywhere, and time the seasons right so that it's great weather all round.

THAT is a PT lifestyle!

Don't Brits need a Visa to visit Australia?????

and are British louts really larger than in other countries? Is it part of the overall trend in society towards obesity?

I'm pretty sure that if you had to be able to spell it to drink it the UK would be a much nicer place...

Yes - it's a simple thing, you can do it online in about 3 minutes. Costs about £12, or it was the last time I visited.

im a recent mover to the US (oct 07). I am having a grand time in the US and very happy we made the jump. I didnt leave blighty because i hated it (Although i would happily kick the stool from under Gordon Brown lol).
The US simply gave us better opportunities than the UK. For us and our kids. This time last year the option of the US hadnt even raised its head - so it wasnt a long term plan either. It was being in the right place at the right time aqndc having a golden opportunity drop at our feet. we were very very lucky. So I do hate it when people just want to slag of blighty. I didnt leave becasue it was shit - just better for my family.

I was in a blah mood this morning until I visited this thread. After reading it, and marveling at your superciliousness, I have been reminded just how content I am; how happy I am to be where I am in my life.

It's rather embarrassing to see your posts - I can't help but squirm a little when I read your child-like comments - but it's also mildly fascinating. Like watching a slow motion train wreck. I can't look away.

At 26, you seem rather - how shall I say this nicely? - innocent. Simple. Unworldly. Scrabbling around trying to impress the adults. Perhaps you're not quite ready to make the break from the kiddies' table...

Maybe this trip will be good for you. I came here at 22 on my own, and it took a while for me to find myself. Your adventure could be the catalyst needed for you to grow from an enfant terrible to a full fledged grown-up person.

Americans will really kick your ass if you come across with that "I've got lots of money and don't have to work hard" attitude. Unless you hang with Paris Hilton.

Seriously -- go somewhere that caters to wealthy Westerners' conspicuous consumption and enjoy, or take the money and use it to settle down.

Mack have you ever had a long period of time where you have been travelling from one country to one country without ever returning 'home'. Maybe you should try it for say 6 months or a yr to see if you actually like it before you embark on a liestyle of being a PT.. When I took my 'gap year' before Uni i travelled around the world and while I had some of the best life experiences, it also gets quite lonely at times and I found out I missed certain British things more than I expected!

On another note, don't you have to have ties to the UK for a B2 visa i.e show you are going back? Also I would be wary with the VWP how often you enter the U.S and how long you stay for in regards to the questions you may get at POE into the U.S. During my gap yr I entered the U.S twice and on both occasions got a severe grilling on my intentions. Apparently the 'gap year' idea is quite a foreign notion and the officer had a really difficult time understanding a year taken off from work/studying to travel!! Luckily though I had a university acceptance letter and some other bills that could show my ties back to the U.K :D

I definately recommend the world travel experience, it was amazing but to be honest after about 10 months of no home cooking, my own bed etc I was ready to return home :)

Read that? If so, what visa? If you don't fit, it's a moot question.

You do, and unless your in retirement age, it's very hard to get, and once denied, you'll have to tick that box on the VWP which makes any future visits an extra hassle.

Things to think about, why you want to move to a certain country as opposed to what you think is crap and want to escape from, because you won't be escaping those things in this day and age.

If your a Brit, there's plenty of countries where you can get a working holiday visa which is usually good for 2 years of travel around the country and usually free or very cheap, it's a good way to go around NZ, Oz and a bunch of other countries without really tying yourself down. The US isn't one of those countries though.

Perhaps you should. If you can manage it - good for you - like I'm saying good for Mack.

Not directed at anyone specifically:

I'm beginning to see this as similar to when Roland joined the forum - and I was one defending him.

Mack has done a bunch of research, and asked a reasonable question. He at least is likely to have a good chance at a visa (though as he admits, not for sure yet). Despite being slagged off right and left, he's been pretty polite about it.

He made a negative comment about the UK, and was grown-up enough to apologize for it.

He's young, made a chunk of money, and is trying to have a plan for the next years of his life. Either plan seems reasonable to me, given his age.

Perhaps the yanks will like the guy - I really don't see the problem - why some posters are so offended by the him.

Erm, perhaps the comments about middle-class, jealous people? That would be my guess. I say good luck to him, also, but he needs some maturity. That is wisdom.

Well that was affter he was insulted - he struck back. Perhaps not the best comment, but neither were some directed at him. And perhaps he's even a bit right.

As near as I can see, he has stopped responding in that fashion - I hope others do also.

Only one person's opinion, but he seems an ok guy to me. I think we should give him a chance, rather than judging him so harshly.
