To come back to the original question, sounds like the moment is perfect.

What sort of Financial Services?

Most have very different practices and procedures and you would need to re-train.

I actually work in a branch as an account manager. The bank is Credit Agricole and the branch is actually a 'distance bank', so we deal with customers by telephone, post and fax. Sometimes customers will come in for a face to face meeting. Mainly we deal with mortgages. But when someone becomes a full french resident, I advise on savings, inheritance, tax efficiency etc.. also do marketing projects for our Branch as we go to shows in the UK. Plus I translate product information and some contracts.

Pretty varied, mainly customer relations based.

Just off to the office now...

Cheeers to all contributors by the way, any advice is good advice. I will use it all to devise a plan of attack.

Do not think Credit Agricole has a US presence, if so that's out.

I was thinking along the lines that if you had your FSA qualifications there might be the possibility of working with a US institution targeting the Brit Expat market. French Expat market I guess is too small.

There is always the very long shot, but being realistic, you might want to consider the timing issue again.

Technically you are not allowed to job hunt on a VWP, practically without legal presence there is not a lot of point anyway, always the chance if you have a high demand specialism.

There are a few expats in New York City working for international banks. What about Credit Suisse, at which French would come in handy?

He's definitely got opportunities with an EAD or GC in hand; without, he's pissin' in the wind. And it would seem that by what he has told us, he has an opportunity to hold an EAD or GC. Hope the message is getting through to him...

Oh, right.

Is the film Carte Verte available in France? It does star Gerard Depardieu.

If he were managing the investment division in London, he could be in with a chance. But he ain't!

Nevertheless, there are opportunities for a great (and crap!) living in the financial services industry over here. Really, the sky is the limit in how much you want to earn. His Spanish will be useful, especially in the Southwest (he mentioned Vegas). So if he wants to come and work here, he knows how he needs to do it.

I did message a Brit friend of mine working in banking in NYC (he is not married and doesn't hold a green card). But don't hold your breath. My friends have a way of disappearing and reappearing when it suits them!

My Brother works in Banking, US Bank in London, but did 6 months in NYC.

With due respect, his area is not the usual one for international transfers.

Those extra slots were reserved for certain countries, blighty wasn't one of them.

SOL without marriage really....best bet, marry the woman or get her to move to the UK....

Or could try blagging a language job at a private school as they don't have to be teacher certifide, but again, would have to show your worth it to them as the H1B costs a few grand all in.
