and I've been a silent member ever since, I'm from Trinidad but migrated to the UK with my husband and baby. living in the uk was very depressing for me I made some good friends but I still felt sad when I made the decision to migrate to the USA I was worried about fitting in, I'm a nurse and the same agency that ruckgirl used I used.I was placed in one of the worst hospitals in NJ and it was very hard at first but I stuck it out, some of the other nurses who came with me broke there contracts and now paying the agency 15000.Last year we bought a house (after16mths being in the usa) a beautiful house in a very nice community with excellent schools (high taxes )
Three mths after that I completed my contract with the agency and i'm presently working for a good magnet hospital (great benefits, salary) the only sad thing is that my husband (medical doctor) Has to do over his residency 3yrs but the time is going quickly and even though he had done his mrcp in the UK promotions were difficult. I earn so much more than I did in the UK, I'm now a soccer mom and really enjoying life when ever I see the bbc news I feel sad all over again I can't explain it I'm not trying to be negative about the UK because I still feel a sense of pride about it and the people are great but I'm much happier in the USA, so wherever you are in the world If you're not at home don't be afraid to make that change.

We like you have built a life here, bought a house, kids in reasonable schools, which in AZ is an achievement in its self, however i'm still not sure its for us, I miss decent holiday entitlements, worry free sick time and most of all the protection the NHS brings, I'm glad its working out for you, I hope to feel as settled sometime soon, just not sure on which side of the Atlantic yet.
