I believe it was in Bowling for Columbine where Moore made a very valid point on the difference between the US and Canada....The TV, or more specifically the News. The Average US resident is submitted to a daily and constant barrage of fear and "terror" on the TV. All the news is apocalyptic and designed to instill fear into the viewer. Do that long enough and people will start to beleive it. Do it to an audience who are already apocalyptic in nature and you have the current situation where no-one trusts anyone, every one feels the need to defend themselves and there is no sense of neighbourly friendships because everyone is simply too shit scared to trust anyone.
