We are fairly lucky in NYC, some parks & areas with FOC WiFi. You can find sites paid/FOC on this site.

You do need to be careful, when using even Starbucks or airports. Channel 7 ABC news did an interesting article, regarding WiFi & "Nasty little people", stealing passwords/SSN's etc.

We've had it for a couple of years now. Don't think hubby's PDA is WiFi enabled, I'll ask him. It's great for sitting up on the decking and logging on (especially when it's 88 degrees like today ) and the best thing ever for Tivo!

If you are going on an Open system (like a hotspot) remember it is just like any network and anyone connected to that network can access your laptop. So do not have any files or folders as shared, this will prevent people looking at the information on your computer.

I was writing software for and testing access points back in 1999 when they where in there infancy and I was one of the few people with Wi-Fi on my laptop at that point. If I ever found an access point I would always jump on it, no-one enabled WEP back then!
