The Constitution allowed gun ownership for the purpose of overthrowing a renegade government. They wrote it in their day, when good handguns and automatic weapons did not exist.

Given that it would be nearly impossible to overthrow a government if the rebels were armed simply with guns (any guns, you name it), the point is now moot. Unless you believe citizens should have the right to ICBMs and nuclear warheads.

Trouble is, you can't *get* a NABDC unless your ancestors were enrolled on early lists, and those who didn't wish to take a little hike west to Oklahoma did not register. Hence many of indigenous American descent cannot prove it.
