The Keurig models that I have used (admittedly the fairly high end "office" systems) are really fast - I haven't timed them but I am pretty sure that it takes less than 30 seconds per cup - so with 8 people the longest you would have to wait is about 4 minutes ...

Yes - just found a link - everything except the smallest model is rated at 30 seconds:

*sigh* - stupid web site - you have to click on "compare all brewers" to see the comparison - I can't link to it directly ...

So what is the 'type' of brew that this machine makes? Is it a pressurized steam device, like an espresso machine, or a 'drip' machine, like the classic 'Mr Coffee' filter machine? I no longer enjoy 'drip' coffee, having developed a taste for espresso drinks. The temperature and pressure of the water/steam does yield a different result.

We have them in all our offices and everyone seems to be excited about them, but they just look like a fad to me, and very wasteful in terms of packaging.

Yes that's true. My MIL and BIL both have one (Keurig), I have yet to have a cup of coffee I like from them, and I've tried different kinds  But the hot chocolate is ok. A cafetiere is much better, and you can brew just a couple of cups in a drip machine.

we have had one over two years and DH uses it daily. Half the battle is finding a varaiety you like. Once thats done its easy :) We buy something different each time and then DH just has a random one when he makes it.

We actually brought the drawer storage unit from BB&B (exclusive to them i think) that the actual Keirig unit stands on. Then you can oull out the drawer and chose from the selection. It takes up a bigger footprint than the machine and raises the height a couple of inches so can only be used where you have enough clearance to still lift the lid - BUT its a lot less messy looking than the carousel unit thingy everyone else has.

I couldn't live without my Keurig, I love it. I had a Tassimo in the UK which was also very good. It seems like you get a lot more varities with Keurig. Join their club online and get some good discounts.

Another example of conspicuous consumption. I understand it being in the waiting room at the car service station, but at home I can adjust coffee to my taste quite readily; and my Mr.Coffee only cost about $25, and takes up much less space.

Where it comes into its own, when family like drinking different kinds of coffee, decaf or not etc.

But other wise, I some what agree...though now they have those reusable pod thingys, might not be so bad.

So I went over to another friend's house today and she had a Kuerig so I spent the morning trying out the different coffees..... spent the rest of the day racing around like Animal from the mullets due to the caffeine:D
Anyway, I'm sold! Loved the easiness and convenience of it and seeing as I'm not a coffee aficionado, I think it'll keep me and my guests happy for the forseable future.
Just printed a 20% off bed bath and beyond coupon so taking myself off to do some shopping tomorrow :)

We are on our second machine. I have no problem with the coffee quality and choice, but the machine themselves do not appear to be robust. The first one slowly stopped pumping water from the reservoir into the heater and we returned it to Costco and got a newer version of the same model FOC. Apparently the early models had the pump problem, it is commonly reported on the web. Strange thing is that the new model is also showing signs of failing in the same way, i.e. taking longer and longer to pump. We use only reverse osmosis filtered water to it's not a clogging problem.
I'd advise the Costco route as undoubtedly we'll be returning this one when it finally goes TU.

I have an issue with all those little plastic containers going into landfills. I'm not a super green person or anything but think it's crap that while everyone talks of saving the earth these huge companies are constantly coming out with new ways of putting more shit into the ground.

I think the OP said her husband drank loads of coffee in the morning. I get the impression these things are not good for people who drink a lot to get them moving, but rather the one off - and avoiding the need to have a pot on in case someone turns up at your doorstep.
To my mind it seems a very expensive way to get your morning fix if you need about 3+ mugs.
I have noticed these machines everywhere, seems to be the thing of the moment. Even my hairdressers have them now - the coffee was very good, just strikes me as an expensive way of doing it.

That being said, I think the OP was looking forward to going shopping! Let us know what you think of it!

I love my Keurig. I have the B70 and it has five cup size settings including a travel mug size (14 oz, I think).

I'm the only coffee drinker, so it works out well for us. I set the timer and make a cup of my choosing before I leave for work in the morning. I make sure I buy the extra bold k-cups and I get ample flavour from them.

A good resource for supplies is Slickdeals.net and they often have offers. I usually get mine from Kohl's and pay around $11.99 for 18, but they always have discounts of 15-30% if you sign up for their emails.

The last deal I got was by joining Cafe Express from Green Mountain Coffee (same company as Keurig) and I got three boxes of 24 Travel Mug size french roast for around $28 shipped - with a free stainless steel travel mug! However, it was clearance, so it's no longer available, but it's an example of what you can find.

These machines have a bad reputation for failing. I would recommend buying from Costco, which has good prices and an awesome returns policy. Keurig is pretty good at replacing bad machines too.

All-in-all, for good coffee in small quantities, the Keurig is a great machine.

Lol! My OH only has time for one cup, maybe 2 in the morning and I drink one cup a day.
I'm loving the machine so far (although OH isn't around at the moment to try it out!)
The coffee and hot chocolate are good but the tea, being a morning tea drinker, isn't up to PG Tips standard ;) (the tea came free with the machine so tried it out)
Will take what everyone has said on board and will keep the receipt for if (or when) the pump packs up!
Happy Slurping Y'all

Old thread but didnt want to start a new one
We got a Keurig finally ---hmmm its okkkaaayyyy

I like very strong coffee - not so much caffeine wise but it has to be full bodied and sort of "thick" I found my french press to be fine but fancied one of these fancy machines!!

It came with 12 samples - i have found one so far i like - extra bold french roast ---ive just made and thown out the hazelnut one

dont want to have to go thro them all so any suggestions as to strong bold "thick" coffee with body?

We have bought a filter so can use our own - problem is is that i like very hot coffee and whilst its ok its not boiling hot (i know coffee isnt supposed to be boiling anyway) also ive been using tap water - could this affect the taste?

Can't help out with the choice of coffee as I don't care for strong coffee but I always use filtered water for coffee and tea. I find it makes a big difference in the taste.
