JFK - Time at Security when going through on a visa
#16
If you get your phone out in secondary processing you'll get yelled at pretty quickly (like I did messaging my AirBnb host telling him I was running late). So trying to organize your ride will prove fairly tricky.

I can help on this as I've actually just gone through JFK myself this afternoon on a CR1 visa.
It took me about 20 minutes to queue (you go to the permanent resident and returning esta gate) and then had a lovely immigration officer who took my envelope, made pleasant small talk with me and my wife then popped a stamp in my passport and I was away. The whole interaction took 5 minutes.
Good luck chap!

I was in secondary for 2.5 hours when I arrived with my IR-1. There were about 30 Mexicans being "secondaried" and we had to wait fir the interpreter to come back from her break before they would continue with them. Even though I didn't need an interpreter I had to wait until all of the Mexicans had been sorted.

Can you just book a town car as soon as you land via the mobile phone? That way you will cushion against any possible airline delays.

Show me a car service that doesn't have cars convenient to JFK. Just call your service when you're waiting for your bags - you won't have to wait long. I guess you could tell them in advance you'll be doing that, if you really wanted?
If you get bounced at PoE for acting weird and jumpy because you booked a car too early, I would totally nominate you for some kind of BE award though

This doesn't always hold true though. Besides he's entering on an L-1 so he'll be in line with all the other visa categories and those are typically quite long.

..... I'm moving on August 24th and am just putting the final pieces of the puzzle in order; namely airport transfers. I've got my Addison Lee booked to get me to Heathrow at this end, and am going to get a town car at the other end - these are reimbursable expenses, and I'm going to have three suitcases with me (!) so I thought 'Why not?' ....
I am fairly sure there'll be a few Uber Blacks arriving every hour at JFK and/or loitering near the arrivals area waiting for business.

For me JFK is number 1 or 2 of US airports I avoid like the plague. I 'x' it out of any airline searches regardless of price. I would fly into any of the other NY airports or even Boston, Philadelphia, before I considered JFK an option.

Is this because of flight problems, or the land-side facility? They have done a lot of construction and upgrades in recent years. It is nothing like the s***hole of even 3 years ago.

Appreciate doesn't help the OP, but love arriving at Logan. My record from a BA flight once it got to the gate was plane seat at the gate to uber in 15 minutes, global entry and no checked luggage.

Got into San Francisco 3 hours late on a BA flight. It was in that sweet spot after the arrival of the EU flights, but before the arrival of the APAC flights. I was in business - between taking off the seatbelt and getting in an Uber was 20 minutes. SFO can be up to 1.5 hours on busy days just to get through CBP.

Yeah, I enjoy Logan. I've flown in and out of there so many times I've forgotten. On the whole it's a pretty quick turnaround.
Thanks all for the responses. I appreciate all of the 'You can't possibly know' responses - I already knew that getting an 'answer' would be tricky but, hey, we got 2 pages out of it!
It's one of the things I just won't be pre-planning, but I've done prettttty much everything else, so I'm not too worried now. Just over a week until my flight and I'm about to (hopefully) secure my temporary accommodation for the first 4-6 weeks (hopefully no longer than that!) and then that's me about done!
