Although if money were no object the X5 is better.
The jeep V8 produces 235 hp as apposed to the 225 hp of the X5 6 cylinder.

I have a Jeep Liberty and I love it! It is a no frills model as my only requirement was a manual gearbox. I really enjoy driving it.

it also appears that the US x5 3.0 litre is slightly detuned for the usa

Yeah, 3-4 year beemer vs a new or 1-2 year old toyota is a no brainer for me
OK if budgeting for maintenance is a prob then fair enough, but i would always let someone else pay the steepest depreciation and let me drive a much nicer car
i've probably lost 5k in 18 months on my current 6 year old car (about 14%) which to me is pretty reasonable

Octane in Europe is reported in RON (Research Octane), whereas in the US, octane is reported as an average of RON and a lower figure called MON (Motor Octane), which gets converted into an average called PON or AKI. MON is always lower than RON, so the US octane number (PON or AKI) for a given grade of fuel is going to be lower than the European equivalent.
Here's a conversion table. Basically, you have to deduct 3 or 4 from the European octane number to find the US equivalent:
US (PON or AKI) / Europe (RON)
Regular: 87 / 90
Mid-grade: 89 / 92
Premium: 91 / 95
Premium: 92 / 96
