Have a hunt around the forum to see what others have been offered for relocation packages to compare.

You'll still be blowing through your own savings.
Don't forget you've got furniture, cutlery and other kitchen utensils and all the other boring white goods stuff to buy when setting up as well.

My relocation package was 10x your $3k, and I still ended up significantly out of pocket.

Well, bringing back this thread from the dead, so to speak... I went for my L-1B visa interview today and it was... APPROVED. Yay!
So now I have to plan the move. Company is paying for flights, hotel and rental car. I've found a cheeky little extended stay hotel for around $600 a month (which will do me fine, I really have NO life and no requirement for more than a hotel room for now). My uncle is sorting me out a car loan and I have around £2000 of my own cash to boot.
Looks like I'll be moving around the April 25th mark, set to start work around May 8th. Reno, here I come!!!
