No. I am an old hand at it...speed reader - plus, I have interests in many of the forums - got to try to get up to my old post count - hate giving karma to newbies and only have a couple of boxes show up!

And no. Not H4, but I do work on here quite a bit and tend to 'play' in between.

Hi Everybody,
I joined this site a couple fo years ago when I met my US GF no wife. At the time I was going to move to the US but in the end we decided to settle in the UK and have been very happy for the last couple of years.
I recently lost my job and have been doing some consultany work, planning of starting my own business and also keeping one eye on the US and a possible move, basically keeping all options open!!
The other day I noticed a job advertised in San Antonio and it fit me perfectly so I compiled my Americanised CV (sorry I meant resume
) and sent it off to the agency not expecting to hear a thing. My wife and I had actually agreed that if I were to get this job it would muck a lot of things up such as
- We have just bought a house (in Feb) and are locked in on the mortgage for the next 2 years.
- My wife has just found a job doing Pilates.
- I have teamed up with a couple of other people and we are just about to go for funding to starting a new business.
That said we have always planned to go back to the states at some point and to be honest if I had lost my job before I bought the house we would be there now.
Anyway I was sat drinking a beer tonight and I get a phone call from the agency saying that the company are interested in knowing more about me. It has thrown me and my wife into a spin and although absolutly nothing is sorted yet we have to start thinking about a possible move sooner than what we expected.
Anyway - Hello and I I'm sure I will be posting a lot more questions tomorrow once I have slept on it.

Do you have a US visa? If not, what's your wife's visa status in the UK?
I may be mistaken but it's probably faster for your wife to file for your US visa than for your potential employer to do it.

Be sure that your potential employers understand the quotas on H1Bs -- they will have to wait for a while before being able to have you come over. There are 60,000 visas for 2008 -- think they have already gone, but you'll have to check. L1s are different, as they are for intra-company transfers, so if you can go that route it's easier. Or you can self-sponsor depending on your qualifications.
I only mention this as some employers can have minimal experience with employing overseas nationals, and may not understand the ins and outs of it.

Thanks for the feedback.
The plan if I get the job would be for my wife to sponsor me into the US, from what I have found out she can apply from over here and it could take up to 5-6 months. As we have not been married yet for more than 2 years I would be given a temp visa for entry and then would have to apply for a full green card after our 2nd wedding anni.

You will get an Immigrant Visa and your Green Card status will be 'conditional' if you've been married for less than two years (much different than a 'temp visa'). You will file to remove the 'conditional' part of your status 2 years after you enter the US, not after 2nd wedding anniv.

Hello, welcome to the site (again!) and hope it works out for you both. I guess it could take a while. and the company might offer you a package which would make up for any mortgage penalty.
