Yes, true. And you'd THINK that most state DMV websites would make it clear that the IDP is *most* useful to carry as a companion ID to a foreign-language licence . . . thus translating the foreign licence for anyone who needs it. But not needed so much for a British licence.

But no, my state's DMV website never makes that clear. The husband & I just hustled to get our real state licences as quick as we could . . . . That's the best.
