Default Income Tax - first timer on H1B

Hi

Please can someone point me to (or give me) some straight forward information on Income Tax for my situation, I think I'll be non-resident in UK 2010-2011 and also non-resident US 2010. Not exactly sure what that means or what I have to do other than fill in the HMRC P85. I’m thinking I just need to file taxes with the IRS for this year on US income and worldwide income for the years after?

My Situation:
2010-2011 UK Tax year I was in employment (PAYE) for 2 months, have tax deducted from interest on my bank accounts, have about a grand in a pension, and am hopefully soon to be selling my property (which was my main residence in April) for a loss. I estimate I will have spent 126 nights in the UK for the tax year.

2010 US Tax year, I am awaiting my passport back from the Embassy and will be heading over to the US to work on a H1B visa for the first time from about the 26th of November. In total I estimate I will have spent at least part of the day in the US on 144 days on visits and my upcoming H1B during the US tax year.

Also, it seems that a company car used for personal use I’ll end up paying tax on the leasable value of it, what about a company provided rented apartment - same thing as the car? And should the company normally deduct these from my paycheck?

Many thanks, sorry for the long post.

There are online calculators for figuring out how much time you've spent, but even an hour counts as a day regarding the US.

But resident for tax purposes is different from resident for immigration purposes.

Plenty of threads on this subject if you search them out, even in the wiki to get you started on figuring things out for the first year.
