Anyone mentioned Cub Foods yet, cheap and cheerful and OK for the basics. I liked Dominicks, nice produce.

I was about to post that - they seem to 'close down' every few months - had a cracking closing sale in the one near us recently.
No doubt they'll open again after Christmas.

we're looking for a 3 bed place, built in laundry, takes dogs, preferably with a garden & garage.

house, condo, apartment... whatever... price range ~$1500 or below.

$1,500 a month may be a bit optomistic for what your looking for I think, depending on the town I guess.

There is also a great liquor store on St. Charles Rd and Rt. 83, on the boarder of Elmhurst and Villa Park, forget the name of it now but I used to call in there all the time as it was on my route home from work.

Binny's on Rooservelt in Glen Ellyn also has a great selection too, and there is a Trader Joe's right next to it which is very nice. I go to Joe's quite a bit as we are vegaterians and they have great food there for us.

I think it could be do-able to be honest but I don't rent so can't really advise.

To USBound - I think you really want to shot for somewhere close to a train station though. Arlington Park is on the UP Northwestern line, Schaumburg or Rosselle are on the Milwaukee NW line.
There are more trains on the UP NW line and Arlington Park is easy to park at too - that would leave you to look at the east of Schaumburg, Rolling Meadows, Arlington Heights, south Hoffman Estates or even Palatine for rentals - a pretty big area.

Dogs could be a problem. Most rentals will not take dogs...if they do it's usually one small one.

What are the quarantine rules for dogs? Places we looked at renting, 99% of them did not allow dogs, only cats and small cage-dwelling rodents.

quarantine? I know LA is bad... but damn it aint THAT bad.

my wife is in charge of finding places... but just today she found 25 places within our price range with everything we need. I think we'll be fine.

I stand corrected. I know when I rented when I first got here I was paying $900/month for a 2 bedroom, third floor walk-up, no dogs, no washer/dryer and that was about 3 years ago now in Elmhurst.

I'm glad you were able to find somewhere, just our of interest are the places your looking at private rentals, a regular house so to speak or these rental complexes that are everywhere?
