Quite a few 'progressive' companies are moving towards 'unlimited time off'. This is not as good as it sounds of course; what it really means is, as much time off as you and your manager agree to. The rationale behind this is, I believe, that 'PTO' or 'vacation time' is considered a liability on the books so by going towards 'no limit' it can no longer be considered a liability. And you no longer 'accrue' any time off, so it has no value when you quit. My g/f worked for a very small IT consulting company and was on that arrangement, and my former boss worked for Oracle as a senior manager, and they too moved to that model.

Did you ever say where you were living?

I work for an Oil major, the office staff all work a system called 9/80, so they work 80 hours in 9 days over 2 weeks, so effectively they get a 3 day weekend every other week.

It is a very good system, they get the same amount of work from you ut you get an extra 26 days off per year.

The chemical company I worked for in Louisiana had this system for its office staff and I loved it. Each department had to set up a 3 “shift” cycle so that every Friday had enough staff to cover the work.
