It's all about what we experience I suppose, I know which country has been safer for me.

Really? In the UK, I've had several nasty encounters with people after a night out, whereas in the US, I've not had a single one. In fact, I've been more a victim of crime in the UK than I have over here.

Yeah, really. I've had some pretty nasty shit happen to me over here, plus quite a few nasty things have happened to my hubby's family too. Things I thought were quite unusual, until I moved here & realised it's the norm for this country.

But one happened to you and one didn't.

My point is, isn't it a perceived threat? Actually having your car nicked, is better than the possibility of having it nicked at gunpoint?

Looks alot like downtown DC, a place I would never ever go to alone in the "safety" of my car or not. In fact there are many places near to where I live that I will not go to just because I don't feel safe, that was something I never felt at home either.

Members of your family have been murdered, raped and molested? Your children have been the victims of a paedophile? Is this several crimes linked to one incident?

My husband's relative was shot & murdered, I was raped by 2 American men when I was 15, another of my husband's relatives was molested by 2 paedophiles within their family, one of which is now in jail, the other is on the sex offenders list.

I also thought of another one, which is a bit too close for comfort, my mum was going to marry an American many moons ago, but backed out, he later got married to another women & ended up shooting her before turning the gun on himself. This sounds like a soap opera, but sadly, it's all true.

(Sorry, I didn't want to be too specific about my husband's family, hence the use of 'relative', but they were all different incidents.)

If he removed the homicides committed by whites and every other group in the US he would have less than anywhere in the world. What an idiot.

This website gives a less partisan view.

Note the US is higher (per capita) in many of the "worse" categories than the UK

rapes - over twice as high
murders - over 3 times

just change the search box for whatever takes your fancy

Sorry to hear all that. I guess the growing knifing incidents that are occurring in the UK will be a welcome relief after all.
