Default I have lost my UK passport - OK to enter UK on US passport?

I've moved a couple of times, I still have my American one (which oddly was in the same place as my UK one when I last looked). I haven't traveled outside the USA since COVID happened, last trip was November 2019. My mother isn't doing too well and I don't have a lot of time to mess about with getting a new UK passport. Has anyone traveled into the UK on their US passport? Did anyone say anything? My UK passport is still current so I am worried I might get questioned.

Apologies if I'm being stupid, I am the sort of person who wakes up at 2am because I realized I have an overdue library book.

*Edit. Damn. Title should read OK to enter UK on USA passport.

It is a a requirement that USC enter USA using USA passport. It is perfectly acceptable to enter UK with a valid USA Passport. You should probably report your lost UK passport to UK authorities.

ETA you typically get 6 months "leave to enter" or whatever they call it. Which gives you plenty of time to get the UK pp sorted out and the right to indefinitely stay in UK.

As Rich said, it's fine. I am traveling at the end of the month and will probably leave the UK passports behind in the safe.

Thank you both, Tom and Rich. Put my mind at rest. It means a lot.

I have entered the UK using my US passport when my British passport had expired. I got a wry smile from the immigration officer at LHR, apparently because of the mismatch between my accent and passport, but otherwise my experience of traveling to the UK carrying only my US passport was a total non-event.

The longer I spend in the US, the more my British friends and family think I sound American (whereas the Americans think I still sound British), so I wonder what kind of looks I would get at Immigration.
