...just a plain old tourist visa waiver. Now I understand I have to attach the K1 with my AOS forms. Is this a problem?

If you don't have a K-1 how are you going to attach it? You will have to file the I-485 and your spouse the USC will file the I-130. Along with that she will need to file an affidavit of support for you via form I-864 and if you want to work you will file I-765 and if you want to travel outside of the US and return you will need form I-131, along with a medical if you INS office requires one at the time of filing.
