Well after a couple of months of getting pretty much nowhere I have finally landed a position, and one that suits my needs! It's working as an apprentice electrician, my course fees are paid by the company, I get free health insurance for myself and my family, the pay isn't great (but it is only an apprentice position!) but when I am time served it gets a lot better. I have spent sooo many years flitting between jobs in the U.K. and never really settled into a career, but now I feel I need to, and have always wanted a trade (could not ever work in an office!) but was always put off by course fees etc. Plus my Dad and father in law are both sparkies so I guess I am keeping a family tradition alive! It has been about a year since I last worked, and this come not a minute too soon! At last I can feel I am making a contribution to the household, and not feel guilty seeing my wife off to work every morning while I get to doss around the house all day! ( I did do all the housework of course, but with no kids, it wasn't that hard to do every day!)

Thank you those that have responded with your kind words, and of course the karma! I know it isn't the most earth shattering news on the forum, but it is to me, and I am sure the others that have recently managed to find gainful employment would agree. Just have to see how the workplace differs over here, and try and accommodate the usual stupid American questions! I am sure it will be a learning experience. Congratulations to the other who have recently found jobs too! Well done!

yup....very...but then again, depends on the industry, and if you already have a greencard or not, and if you need sponsoring for a visa, which for an H1 ain't going to happen anytime soon..greencard takes years to get...so without any more info from you, it's hard to really say ain't it...
