Most hot dogs are vile. Hebrew National are the nectar of the gods. But only when overcooked on a charcoal grill so the outside is black.

Don't know, never had them. I don't tend to experiment with fast food places much unless I'm stuck on the road somewhere. In the BK type places the smell of old, greasy and overcooked meat puts me off before I even get started.

Cheese should not bounce when you drop it...neither should you be able to squirt it. There is absolutely no need to mince/reconstitute real meat. IMO it's done when they wish to disguise what is really in it.

I love Biscuits and Gravy! It's a southern food. It's white gravy with small bits of sausage. If you are ever close to a Whataburger try them.:)

OMG, some of you are excluding some fantastic & healthy foods!! Kick away fast food or imitation/American cheese, but not swiss chard, eggplant & clam chowder! (I admit okra can be hard to take, depending on how you cook it, but fried well or in a nice gumbo it can be luscious!)

Only thing that makes me truly gag is the green leaves of coriander, or called cilantro here in the US. Not the seeds or root, just those green leaves make me want to heave. But because so many good dishes both back in England & here in the US utilize this foul leaf, I've been trying to get used to it slowly. I pick a few leaves off, then eat the dish. Not sure it's working, we'll see....

Proper clam chowder is lovely, clams on their own are minging though.

Me, button mushrooms and bananas, but then I'm allergic to 'em.

Not a fan of muscles, cockles, eel and internal organs.

I'm with WEBlue on this you either have puss poor restaurants near you or you just have tried it.

Philly cheese steaks must have whizz

Nathans hot dogs at coney island

Gumbo in new orleans

Biscuits and gravy with grits and friend chicken any where in the south

Chowders oh my.

These are national dishes that really are America and its people. It's like going to the UK and saying fish and chips, pasties and hotpots are a bit rubbish.

The real thing comes from CHEDDAR!!!

My coworkers were amazed to learn there is an actual place called Cheddar...

And that if New Jersey is called NEW then there must have been an OLD one... and that it turns out to be an island!

I have to say I'm really not impressed with the idea that most food here in Phoenix should be 'mexican' and that means covering up culinary disasters with a bucket load of Habenero Sauce (proof that nuclear fusion is not the only source of 10 million degree heat!!!)...

American cheese as in cheese whiz or anything where the contents say Cheese food product. What the hell does than mean anyway?

Swiss Chard, Cilantro, Collard greens, Celery raw, Cockles and mussels (eww) Pretty much any shellfish. Clam chowder, Okra, any of those combo veggies and fruits that someone invented. grapples?

I call Biscuits and gravy - Scones and sick.Becasue thats what they look smell and taste like. Bleurgh.

Before the mung bean decided I was not allowed to eat anything more exciting than broth and apple sauce, I would not eat Okra I can't do fuzzy stuff in my mouth. Orange American cheese both horrifies and fascinates me. My thoughts on Hersheys have been well documented (regurgitated margarine anyone?) but mostly I'll try almost anything. Unless it's over cooked shellfish that looks like alien genitalia

Just remembered Uni. Can't eat that either it's so squishy and alien feeling in your mouth

Okra.
Simple plain jane ol' tomatoes. Vile red things they are. I'm comfy with salsa, ketchup etc but just not them on their own.
Chicken fried steak... just don't get it.

Rocky Mountain Oysters - try 'em!! Not bad but we're not known for our seafood.

Since peeps have mentioned biscuits'n'gravy ... Damn you - I'm now going to have to make 'em this eve... hmm, with chicken or eggs.
There are couple of places here which pride themselves for Breakfast Pot Pie... self explanatory imo, and Saddlebags - pancakes with sausage and bacon in them with eggs on top.
Still, guilty pleasure are bacon wrapped hotdogs or bratts.

I'm a salad person when I don't cave, crave and breakdown.....

You take the batter from southern fried chicken like kfc but way better and instead of chicken you use beef steak usually a thin sirloin. Yummy. Place near me slathers it in their special pork green Chili sauce. Divine!
