Default I-797a???????????

Hi ..

Recently i tried to obtain my drivers licence, but my I-94 is nearly expired(not valid for long enough for them to let me take my drivers test) and as I have only just filed my AOS paperwork I dont have anything like a SSN or EAD card yet.
The woman at the motor vehicle place suggested I should try form I-797A.....does anyone know what this is or where to get it????

Thanks

I know the I-797 which is a Notice of Action normally received from the service center in connection with applied for petitions.

There are only a very very few local INS offices that send out I-797 in connection with filed AOS's. most will send you a small cash register receipt and sometimes a letter stating how long your time wait will be for the AOS interview.

Perhaps the DMV will accept that in lieu of the EAD.
