Default The humble Pumpkin and pie?

Well there's been quite a lot of talk bout the stuff in various threads, so being bored, I thought I'd start one for the pumpkin on it's own.
Anyone like or dislike it?
How about decent recipes and what you do with it?

Having said that i remember i didn't much like my first slice of pie either...guess i just force myself to eat the stuff and now i love it..mine have a great texture and aren't too sweet, great with a cuppa........

don't think i could ever get use to pecan pie though.....i've a sweet tooth but that stuffs just too much sweet goo for me

I don't mind pumpkin pie, but it's when it has that slimey residue on the top that is kinda off putting....but pumpkin and chillie soup is nice

I like pumpkin pie, but I lurv Spotted Dick Pudding smothered in Bird's Custard! So you can guess what desert I had on Thanksgiving. My ex cooked a good pumpkin pie, as did her mother. I still like to eat pumpkin pie at my ex-in-laws, but I've moved and alas they are now too far away for weekend visits, my favorite time to visit them was around Halloween, DeKalb (or is it nearby Sycamore, *bangs head*) in northern Illinois has a very good Pumpkin Festival. There's a building (I think it is the local courthouse) with grounds that get covered in carved out pumpkins.

We always go to my son's in-laws for their big Thanksgiving dinner and every year I eat a slice of homemade pumpkin pie not to be rude...still can't stand the stuff. Can't stand pecan pie either or apple pie with cinnamon...yuk.

Apple pie...that's yum, with a dollop of cream or ice-cream
Gotta be freshly made, not out of a can though...

Can't make apple tart the same as in UK here...no cooking apples You have to use granny smiths and not quite the same as good old bramleys. I still make it occaisonally (without cinnamon) but we prefer it with custard...mmmmm.

Apple pie with custard! At a push I'll have it with cream but definitely not ice cream!

What's freshly made? The apples? The cream?

I make my apple pies with bought pastry but I make the apple filling myself. It's not difficult and doesn't take long. Even a man could make the filling!

If I'm going to serve cream with pie (apple or otherwise), then I'd use heavy cream (double). It could be pourable or I might whip it (by hand. Kitchen Aid is overkill for whipping cream for pie).

Definitely not the cream that comes in a spray type can. Mine is not a Cool Whip household either. Sis-in-law asked us to buy Cool Whip for her pumpkin pie so we did and promptly put it in the freezer. Didn't know it had to thaw out before use 'cos we don't eat the stuff!

Custards good...and we've got a healthy co-op type jobby down the road that gets proper cooking apples in, so ain't to bad there...but can't be arsed making custard tho, but do miss it now and again

Pastry is so easy to make...and if you can peel an apple you can make the filling.
I've never seen a cooking apple in America...guess I live I the wrong place Granny Smiths do a reasonable job though.

actually depends on the can, while some do have the goop others just have nice firm apple slices, can't think which ones right now though add cinnamon or a frozen berry medley yummy!! Frozen pastry already in the tin works great too...surprisingly good and i'm fussy about my pastry.....
bake , serve warm with a nice dollop of vanilla ice-cream YUMMY!!!
