Question How was yours? Thanksgiving Misgivings?

How was your Thanksgiving?

Great?
Indifferent?
Calling a divorce lawyer tomorrow?
Planning to seek counseling?

Moi? So so. Huge T-bone steak and spotty dick pudding (with Bird’s custard) were nice. Gave thanks before tucking in. Horrible telly. Reruns and oh, how nice of “them” to put the “Temple of Doom” on for the “first” time. We were so thrilled. I can’t lounge around so worked on a wee patent, got to pay the bills, tuition loan etc. All in all a substantially stress-free day.

As befits Thanksgiving, my day has been a big adventure.

My turkey was a bit of an unusual bird that I had to roast at very high heat, 425F! Unfortunately, with all this butter stuffed under the skin (as per instructions I'd read), this created a lot of smoke. And I don't mean for a short time. There was smoke billowing inside the oven for pretty much the whole two hours it took to roast the bird.

I had to open lots of windows in the house and I was kind of worried the neighbors would call the fire brigade 'cos of the smoke drifting out of the windows (it was in the 60s here in NC).

Spouse was very concerned that a fire would ignite in the oven (it's electric) because of all the spitting coming from the turkey. I wasn't that concerned especially since we have a fire extinguisher in the kitchen.

Bird was cooked to perfection in about 2 hours (according to instructions it was supposed to be done in 3 but both meat thermometer and skewer in the breast suggested otherwise).

Nobody ate the ham I'd bought as backup 'cos the turkey was so good, if I say so myself. Everyone really enjoyed the meal despite all the smoke during the roasting process. I don't think there's any trytophan in heritage birds so my guests didn't doze off after the meal.

Other than the smoking turkey in the oven, the day was uneventful except when my four yr old nephew stubbed his toe really badly on the downstairs toilet door. It's quite something to hear a toddler screaming at the top of his lungs non-stop for 15 mins!

I took photos of the roasted bird before it was eaten. Got to find the damned digicamera software so I can upload the pics.

In the meantime, feast your eyes on the before pic of the Bourbon Red (not my particular bird. Just an example of the breed)-

Let's hear your Thanksgiving stories too!

Mine was nearly as predicted.

Whilst my wife and mother-in-law worked in the kitchen (my offers of assistance were rejected), my father-in-law and I watched "Pimp My Ride," and agreed that the Escort turned into an M3 was pretty cheesy.

As for the actual dinner, which was held at lunch time, a handful of people attended. All stayed only very briefly but several agreed with one another to have lunch at some undefined time in the future.

Two attendees professed to rising at 5:30am that morning. What the hell for wasn't entirely established, but I suppose it must indicate they are very busy people, even on Thanksgiving. Whether this is an American thing generally I don't know, but my American family is zealous about siezing the day and not wasting a moment, even if that means rising practically the day before.

It was, all in all, a very sober affair and for what purpose we bother with it I don't know.

Aye, nothing special, was a lunch here, while the food was cooking, helped FIL stick the x-mas lights up out at the grandmothers place as it was nice and warm, well in the 50s
Dinner was great, no booze and tele was pants, then the missus and I had to head back early because the weather was pants, expected 45mph winds, which didn't happen, but was seriously foggy, couldn't see more than 5 m's a head, and lots of rain made for an interesting drive.

We had a briefly cloudy and then sunny morning with the rain and high winds later in the afternoon. Dinner was great. Plenty of food and good company. Much the same as the few Thanksgiving I've had in Canada with my Canadian-in-laws, family, friends and lots of edibles. I did all the cooking having started it on Tuesday night with the Canadian meatpies for hubby and the stuffing, dessert pies and smoked ham on Wednesday night and Thursday was the veggies and the bird. Today is a trip to the local social security office to have Jim's status changed to US citizen and a dinner of leftovers and a goodnight's sleep because daughter and I are going to the casino on Saturday morning. Love these long four day weekeneds.

A day late but a good one:

A young man named John received a parrot as a gift. The parrot had a bad attitude and an even worse vocabulary. Every word out of the bird’s mouth was rude, obnoxious and laced with profanity.

John tried and tried to change the bird’s attitude by consistently saying only polite words, playing soft music and anything else he could think of to “clean up the bird’s vocabulary.

Finally, John was fed up and he yelled at the parrot. The parrot yelled back.

John shook the parrot and the parrot got angrier and even ruder. In desperation, John threw up his hands, grabbed the bird and put him in the freezer.

For a few minutes the parrot squawked and kicked and screamed. Then suddenly there was total quiet. Not a peep was heard for over a minute. Fearing that he’d hurt the parrot, John quickly opened the door to the freezer.

The parrot calmly stepped out onto John’s outstretched arms and said, “I believe I may have offended you with my rude language and actions. I’m sincerely remorseful for my inappropriate transgressions and I fully intend to do everything I can to correct my rude and unforgivable behavior.

John was stunned at the change in the bird’s attitude. As he was about to ask the parrot what had made such a dramatic change in his behavior, when the bird continued, “May I ask what the turkey did?

My FIL, well one of the three FIL's I have was staying with us on Wed night. He finally pitched up at 10.30pm, 4 hours late, with a chick in tow. They stayed for a while and then he told us he had to pop out. He came back in at 2am minus the chick and then wandered off again in the morning. From the state of the house he came back again and stayed another night even though we weren't here. He's the most boring man on the planet and unfortunately, he stays with us rather a lot. He's decided to stay with us on Christmas Day which is a real bummer. I was hoping that me and Mr Sibsie could have a nice romantic first married Christmas together.

Thanksgiving was at my grandfather in law's place. He's 98 and a tyrant but thankfully it was all over within an hour. In the evening me and hubby went to downtown Boston, met up with friends and stayed at a swanky hotel on Long Wharf.

Today I missed Black Friday and spent an hour in a MRI tube fighting the feeling of being buried alive.

Weren't all bad then...but missing the sales does suck...missed them here, nothing nearly as dramatic tho...the missus had to work...as she worked july 4th, should have been given another holiday day off but the team never were, so were allowed to have thanks giving off, last minute...if they worked earlier today...hmmm
