I pay $91 a month for myself and my daughter. I also pay $50 a month for our dental insurance. I have a $20 copay for doc's visits and prescriptions. Other half pays for his health insurance through his employer. I work in the health care industry as a Web producer, so get pretty good benefits compared to a lot of people.

I know its bad taste to talk personal money, but since this isn't the UK and its a forum media, anyone want to compare?

My OH's job provides the health insurance at the mo (we've swapped back and forth over the years, depending on which is better)

Her employer self-funds and it costs us $256 every 2 weeks.
Thats $6,656 out of our gross family income every year.
$200 odd a month for 4 of us...

Just over $11,000 a year for my husband, me and three kids.

$25 co pay for doctor visits, random sums for prescriptions, $100 for ER visits, can't remember the rest.

Dentist bills covered 50%.

I am the most expensive, I think my premiums are about $5000 a year.

$110 per month for family coverage (me/wife/2 chillun) with United Healthcare. Also have a Mastercard HSA where I can fire as much in as I want tax-free to help with the deductible which is $4,000 per year. Office visits are $35 I think and prescriptions seems to be pricey.
Can't really complain.

~$400/mo for medical, dental, vision care, $2.5MM in supplimental term life and LTC. Two healthy adults and two healthy kids. Healthcare is United Healthcare POS. $5 co-pay for drugs, $10 office visit, $30 specialist, $50 ER. Dentist- 100% covered for check-ups, $200 deductible on procedures (I think) up to some high maximum. One pair of glasses a year for free for the missus.

Oh yeah, the dental is $50 annual deductible per year, 100% covered for annual preventative checkup care but has to be done or they won't cover further stuff, and then it's $1500 a year a person cover for other stuff, but you can roll over 60% I think if you don't use it to a maximum of a few years worth of coverage I think.

Don't have eyeball coverage, used to, that was nice, but not at this place.

All of us on my plan would be $1000 per month as I've stated earlier. Yep, there's a deductible, co-pays, and 10% responsibility for a lot of things.

Those of you who pay less are having your companies subsidise your coverage, OR you've gone private and are young and completely healthy.

My policy is subsidized by the company; it is part of my pay structure.
$9.59 a week for me, an extra $47.95 for the misses. Its a fairly good health policy (Blue Cross of California) - the complete package covers health, dental, vision, Life, AD&D, Long-term disability and comprehensive travel accident.

Thats the rub when you add all the ad&d and insurance options (etc) into your out-of-pocket total. It climbs right up there.
Thats what I was originally quoting on ours. The full and complete whack.

What I find pretty sad is that some firms will bar you from adding your spouse if he/she/it has the option of health insurance through their employer. The option, mind you.

My wifes employer cuts me a check every six months She has the option of company subsidized insurance, or up to $1000 each 6 months (yeah I know paltry). I provide copies of a salary statement showing my health insurance payments and they send me a check for $1000 (it was like $1,045 or something last time) - I think it changes depending on the plan they are in.
I think I'll need to declare this on my taxes when I file my return

Thats the point I am hoping to make. That companies vary a lot in how much they pay into your full premium as offered to them by the carrier/s they choose. Then they use that angle to suppress or maintain a wage level (been in that happy arrangement - the spin is just daft).

What used to be a nice benefit of employment really seems to be competing with the actual wage more and more. Especially with those who don't earn a lot and need the insurance. Like the poor buggers at WalMart (spit!)

Any thoughts? How do you tackle the issue of health insurance as offered in light of overall renumeration?

I don't know whether anyone's interested in the costs if you're self employed. Currently we're paying $706 a month for 3 of us (me, DH and son) PLUS $128 for DD at college (unlike company policies, if you are self employed, children drop out of the policy at age 19 even if they're in college). $500 a year per person deductible, $100 for prescriptions (after that you get a discount), no dental or vision. There's also a 20% copay on major medical.

Gulp -- is there an annual out-of-pocket maximum on that 20%? A lifetime cap on benefits?

I couldn't qualify for insurance on my own. This is the main reason I am feeling pushed out of America. It frightens me, as I've said, to think of running out of coverage.
