Default How does it work??

Hi,

How owuld it work for a family of 2 adults and 2 kids (3 and 1) to move to america (orlando probably), buy a house and get full citizenship so we could live there forever?

Ive heard about visas and greencard but dont know how it works.

Is it possible to get full rights to stay there forever?

Matt

I have to say, by the sound if it, you will not be able to. BEst you can probably hope for is an E2 Visa. See here:

How long does an e2 last for? , is it work related? ie i have to be working for an employer and the moment my job is terminated i have to come back to the uk?

If so , what options would there be if say i worked for a company for 3yrs on an e2 visa and then lost my job , could i then apply for greencard?

No is the short answer. US is one of the hardest places to get into if you don't have an outstanding reason to be here. E2 is only a temporary fix anyway and does not lead to residency.

To be very honest, I think you will be struggling to come here, and you would maybe be better off looking at different countries.

Best option is to try for Canada. Virtually impossible to move to the States unless you are loaded with cash to invest in a business, or, have a special skill that US Citizens do not.

Hi,

Short of marriage, considerable cash, or extraordinary skill & degree in some industry (tech, medicine, law) coming to the US to settle permanently is incredibly difficult.

In a general sense, you need a sponsor--someone who is going to sponsor your application for a green card (i.e. an employer who needs you to be here, a spouse or child who is a citizen sponsoring you, or in a convoluted way yourself because you have a million US to invest and give jobs to Americans) (Ok, there are other ways but in general it is something like this).

There are ways to get here--please please read the WIKI above for the 9 ways to a Visa or so, but it is not an easy jump by any stretch (just the paperwork) and the other things (culture, expense, etc) might really surprise you.

And from the answer given there, it don't sound like thats a bunch of Roses either. But where there's a will, theres a way - but even then, the US is probably the hardest (or even impossible) way.

I think we need to re-title it to Move To Florida!!!

It will probably get a lot of attention that way (I'm serious).

I don't know. Just feel kind of sorry for these people who so want to get out of the UK and try the US.
Its not like America is overloaded with skilled people either.
Otoh, perhaps they've heard that the people in the UK actually like to have have a laugh at work and don't want to contaminate the "professional environments" here with humour.

On the flip side, I'd absolutely love to live in Europe, at least for a few years. Very unlikely that this would be possible for me either. Too bad there isn't an exchange program.

thing is, getting a work visa is a lot easier though, no quota to worry about and all that...and if the US took part in the workers holiday visa, they'd be all set but as they don't, only NZ let them use it, shame really as it gives people good 2 years to check a country out and work.
