Hopefully you'll never run into this again - but I've heard that bathing in tomato juice is a way to get rid of the smell. May well be an old wive's tale - but I've heard this several times.

It does seem to be a popular remedy - although on this link below there are other remedies:
http://answers.yahoo.com/question/in...8103905AAgFnyt (god I sound like a really bad infomercial don't I).. It is also brilliant if you get sunburned really bad, put some tomato juice on and it takes the sting away... |

i love all the old fashioned remedies and if i'd have known about it then and if my kitty had a short coat i might well of tried it. not sure if you are familiar with persian cats coats, they are very thick and very long. i don't think Lucy got sprayed too much as the smell only lasted a few days and so we were extremely lucky

Re: Housing Madness
Thinking back to the original thread, I noticed there were a very large number of open houses in this area today, with stupendously high asking prices - seems like people are racing to sell at the top?

quite a lot of the US is like that...most of maine unless you pay private contractors in the cities...and then only in the larger cities..
And our tax is $6000 a year. But the schools are excellent so I don't mind so much seeing as I have three kids and it's cheaper than sending them to private school. We had the 'shall we rent or buy' discussion, and we have decided to buy a house. Financially it may not totally make sense right now, but we wanted to live in this area, there was nothing to rent, and we wanted security. I plan to live here for a good few years (I hope) and we have found the dream house. Still have to complete on the house in the UK though... will it EVER happen? |
Re: Housing Madness
Definitely depends on the city. Here for $240K we got a 4 bedroom, 3 bath house on about 1/2 an acre. We're in a school district that's in the top 10 in the state of Ohio. Taxes are a bit high though - I just looked them up and it's about $7500/year. Luckily that comes with weekly trash, recycling, yard waste pick up, membership to the local rec for $75/year for a family, free concerts on the square every Friday night, etc. So ... while property taxes are a bit high, I think we're getting some benefit.

Re: Housing Madness
Just got my tax bill for next year-taxes are going down to 1400 from 1600.

Re: Housing Madness
Not a lot of homes for sale around here....the ones on the main road only sale if there are no others about...so we have 3 along there but it is a long road...I'd not buy on it...the fire trucks and cop cars are racing along that road all day....house price in my part of town seem to hang on...we were once the cheapest place to buy on Cape...but where the prices in other towns fall every time we have a down turn were have now creeped up...there was a waiting list for homes in our little community...but no-one seems to leave here unless they go into a nursing home or die..
