Question Honeymoon Destinations

I am trying to take a positive role in long distance wedding planning.... I am looking for somewhere (within the US) to spend our honeymoon. We are trying to save money, so it has to be reasonably priced... BUT nice enough to be memorable.

Does anyone have any suggestions or recommendations?

You don't give enough information. Where are you? What are your likes and dislikes? Hers? What do you consider special?

Of course it all depends on your budget, interests, and season, but my personal favorite place in the USA is Lake Tahoe, on the border between California and Nevada. There are big casino hotels that are reasonably priced, or you can rent a cozy cabin (some of the private cabins for rent aren't too pricey). There is plenty to do around the lake in summer (boating, fishing, swimming, hiking), and plenty of winter activities also (skiing, sleigh riding, roasting marshmallows on the fire). The drive all the way around the lake is a day-long activity in itself, with lots of viewpoints. Unless you live within driving distance, you'd fly to Reno Nevada and rent a car to get to Lake Tahoe...about an hour away.

I am from London, UK and my fiance is from NJ, USA.

I like the usual stuff......... Reading, travelling shopping. But I guess you mean in terms of a holiday...... I would like somewhere where the weather is warm. Privacy is important to us, so I would like somewhere that we could be alone a lot. I would also like there to be romantic scenery, no where that is too built up.
Special is something that we have never done before, I know that he has never been to the West Coast (neither have I), so I am looking to go somewhere in that region. I would also like there to be activities, just in case we feel like going out......

Might get a good response posting in the US lifesytle section as well

As for places, if on a budget, CT is pretty cool and can hang out at Foxwoods or the other casino for a bit of a laugh...maine's not to bad either, though it'll depend on when you want to go, this time of year is nice because things are opening up, and it's before humidity and mozzies hit...plus there are some great stateparks that you can check out for free as they haven't officially opened up for the season, and the hotels/motels are still cheap.

A few suggestions

For warm weather, privacy and activity, why not look into the Gulf area of Florida. In particular Naples or one of the small islands off shore that are still Florida such as Sanibel Island. You can rent a lovely beach house for a small rental fee and the I guarantee that the sunsets are beautiful. There is plenty of shopping on or just off the island and Naples is a wonderful place to dine, swim, shop and relax.

Also now is a lovely time for the beaches of South Carolina or the beaches of Mississippi. In MS you can go to a casino for a little gambling and a show or hop over to New Orleans for a night in the French Quarter.

Or like us, you could venture to Block Island, Rhode Island. It is a 90 minute ferry ride from Port Judith and off season (before Memorial Day) is a perfect time to visit. If you want excitement you can take a day trip back to the mainland to the Foxwoods Casino or to Mystic.

There are great things to do all up and down the coast of California, if you're looking at west coast activities. Depending on how much time you have, driving from San Diego to San Francisco is a great trip....San Diego, Los Angeles, San Francisco, all have activies, with lots of coastal scenery along the way.

Driving down through inland California is great too. You've got Lake Tahoe, Yosemite National Park (breathtaking!), and Sequoia National Forest (with the huge trees).

In Arizona, you've got the Grand Canyon, too!

I should be a travel agent. LOL

I'll assume he still lives in NJ...

The thing about going to the west coast is that you're going to suck
up substantially more money in airfare.

I might suggest:

*Charleston, SC. Medium-big city on the coast of SC. Warm, but not
FL warm. The downtown area is really nice and walkable, and there
are tons of old buildings (ie, 1820 and before) and history and such,
and Spanish moss everywhere and dolphins in the harbor. It's
romantic in that sense. Obviously, it's built up, being a city and
all, but there are beaches nearby for more private time.

*Wilmington and the Outer Banks. Fly into Wilmington NC, stay a
night or two getting pampered in some nice hotel in Wilmington or on
the beach, and then go south along the Outer Banks to Ocracoke
Island. You'll have to take a ferry to get there, but when you do
you'll be on a ~20 mile island with a very cute little town at the
south end, where everything is, and the rest is just wild barrier
island. There's even a British cemetery on the island for casualties
of a U-boat sinking off there, IIRC. (watch, now it'll turn out to
be the U-boat crew that's buried there)

Yeah it seems that way. My friends and family are well scattered with a child in Las Vegas, a stepson in Halifax, friends in Massachusetts, in-laws in Montreal and dad in New Jersey, I do spend a great many weekends travelling. But then I get 32 days off a year plus holidays and carryover so I can afford to do so ;-) One of the perks for having worked for 39 years.
