Hi from Carmel Indiana
Hi Guys,
Thought I'd say hello! We (me, wife and 2 kids) have been here for 6 months and are Loving it!!!
So what if the chocolate tastes funny, and there's maple syrup in the beans. There's no OXO and the bread tastes like they substituted the salt with sugar - The people are great, the weather is *ahem* interesting, and we got fireflys in the back yard.
We are selling our house back home, and building one here - in for a penny.....
cheers.

Hi Paul
I'd like to say welcome to BE but I'm very new here too! I only joined yesterday after finding the site online. Good to know it exists - can feel it's going to be a huge support in the coming months!
Where are you from in the UK?
And how true about the bread! Very strange.

Re: Hi from Carmel Indiana
we were originally from Lymm in Cheshire, not far from Manchester.
Indianapolis is a fantastic place, yep there are some great places to eat (not counting the China Buffet at Castleton, yuk) we much prefer PF Changs. I gotta try to eat one of Shula's 48oz Porterhouse steaks.
House prices - we have just sold our 4 bed townhouse back home for 300k, we are buying a brand new 4/5 bed, finished basement (with cinema room), triple garage, loads of upgrades for $440000 - Prices are amazing, especially with the quid doing so well at the moment.

Welcome. Enjoy the fireflies. When I was a kid we used to catch them and take them to the movie theater and let them loose inside. They'd be blinking throughout the movie, driving people crazy.
By the way, not sure if this is interesting for you, but there is a really neat small town near you called Columbus, Indiana. It's small, about 40,000 or so, but it ranked #6 in the US in terms of architecture. The main company (Cummings motors--lawmower like motors) pays the architecture fee for any new public building (and has for the last 40 years or so). IM Pei (Louvre addition) did the library, Eliel Saaromem did a chruch, Eero Saaromem (St. Louis Arch guy) did a bank, Harry Weese (Washington Subway architect) did a church and many other famous architects have designed buildings there. It's rather unique, and it is only about an hour away from Carmel.

Re: Hi from Carmel Indiana
Hello from an Indianapolis native and (one-time) fellow Carmelite!
I am now living in Minneapolis, but grew up on the northside of Indy and lived in Carmel for a time, at Mohawk Hills Apartments (which I've heard are being torn down), and I used to work at the Carmel Public Library as an assistant in the Communications and Development department. I've still no idea why a library needs a Communications and Development department, but it's a great library anyhow.
BTW, for Indian curry, check out India Garden in Broad Ripple. It's still the best Indian food I've ever had!
Cheers,
Andie
