Thanks for the feedback. So much to consider and think about. I wish there was a clear way forward.

Moving from the US back to the uk system will be hard. Your kids will be way behind. If you’re wanting to get them into competitive schools in London you’ll need to plan on a lot of tutoring. I wish I’d never left the uk as my kids education has trapped me here. The level of education by age is significantly lower. Think carefully.

We're in a similar boat, moving on an O1 that has been pushed back, and back, and back...............now looking at May this year. Our girls are literally just 13 and 11, not ideal ages to relocate, but this venture has been on the horizon since just before the kick off of this poxy pandemic. We're too far down the line to back out, not that we would but like you, very concerned about where it leaves the girls if we decide it's not for us or perm res application gets declined (3 years). We did toy with the idea of employing a tutor on a regular basis to keep them abreast of the UK curriculum, but as many pointed out, this would be nothing but hard work for them. If we do only end up living in Southern California for just 3 years, i want them to look back at the adventure as being a great experience for them and not just a mind blowing educational slog.

Something that has surprised us is the amount of parents we have bumped into in the area that have opted for home schooling. It's not something we would consider as the lack of socialisation (in our opinion) wouldn't not do them any good, however it does appear that some of the home schooling is carried out by like minded parents organising their own small tutor groups.

We've come to the conclusion that it's almost impossible to cover all exists so you just have to go with your gut feeling, don't overthink everything and just run with it and enjoy the ride.

Cheers

Mic
