Default UK passport

So my UK passport expires in a few months. Still no word on my naturalization process (it's only been about 5-6 months so far). I'm going to renew it as I believe I shouldn't risk being in a state of limbo/unable to travel to visit England should anything happen. Is this the best process to take?

Also, any experience doing this recently? It appears I now have to send my UK passport to the UK before they'll process the new passport? Any recent experiences/tips?

Thanks

I always renew my UK PP. I am proud to be British…I will keep my UK PP up to date no matter what. If I had to chose between the two..UK would win every time.

Even with Covid this has still been a simple process - takes weeks rather than months to renew

Another +1 for keeping your British passport. If I recall correctly at the start of Covid you could only enter the UK with a.British passport..

I was planning on keeping it. Just wanted to check the process - seems a little too straight forward for our 'home' government

Does it still take just weeks? I'm only wondering because it seems like I need to send in my old passport first?

Yes recent reports indicate it is still days/weeks, not months, for a straightforward renewal.

You complete the on-line application here: https://www.gov.uk/overseas-passports
At the end of the application you will be told what documents to send. It's not really "sending in your old passport first", it is just part of the process.

As a UK/US dual citizen I have maintained both passports. As others indicate it gives additional options.

The Uk only limited entry for non citizens and non residents who had been in a red list countries in the previous 10 days and the USA has not been on that list.

I renewed mine in September, took less than 8 weeks from beginning to receiving my old one back. One of the few Government offices that seems to work quite well.

I have found my UK passport to be very handy for proving identity with different UK financial institutions, and I think I needed one to get an online account with DHSS.
