Have you been to the UK recently??
We all have to pay Home Insurance, health insurance and car insurance. It is just as high over here as over there.
The NHS will not be here much longer and if you want something doing you have to pretty much pay anyway so where is the difference. I think you people need to get back in touch with the British economy. Compared to the UK the USA has a much smaller cost of living.

There is no equivalent of the NHS in the US. It is all privatised and even if an employer offers subsidized health insurance, you could still be paying a couple hundred Dollars a month (more if you have children or depending on the size of your employer) and that's before you even use the services!
You can continue living with rose tinted glasses about life in the US if you wish. Reality will hit you hard, especially since you have a kid.

Yes there are cheap places in the UK but they are few and far between.

Gas $2.20 per gallon.

eating out is all relative to what the restaurant / cafe can charge.
groceries at the store are comparitive, and Tesco wins hands down everytime.

I love how people come on here dissing the NHS all the time. Obviously people who think the level of healthcare in the US is so vastly superior. They'll soon be wishing to be back on the NHS system when they've encountered a problem here.
A very close friend's daughter had a liver transplant in the U.K. a couple of years ago. The level of care she got was outstanding. The staff efficient, helpful and friendly.
You're soooo going to be in for a rude awakening.

Have you heard about people going bankrupt in the UK due to the inability to pay for medical bills? In the US, over 50% of bankruptcies are caused by inability to pay for medical bills. This was big news earlier this year.
