Our plan was to sell the extra house we have giving us minimum of £100,000 to invest and start a new life whilst renting out our current property to cover our mortgage etc so if need be we have something to come back to.

Would £100,000 be enough?

100k would be a minimum. The investment has to be substantial and you have to have other resources and income.....so if you are putting everything into a US business you probably won't get the E-2.

Remember that investing the money means it's gone, you won't have any left for living until the business starts to bring in money, so you might well need almost a much again just to get a property, provide health insurance, which has already been quoted as about $2,000 dollars A MONTH for your situation. Income on your rental property in the UK will NOT cover the monthly outgoings in the US, never mind about feeding yourselves.

Yeah man, damn those immigrants! Their ruining it for everyone else with their hopes of a better life, they don't even bother to want in learn theyselves the language. They should be sent back where they came from!

On the other hand, YOU should be allowed to move wherever you want and be an immigrant in America just because you want to. Hypocritical much?

Your chances of moving to the USA with £100K and your current situation are effectively non-existent, but maybe consider moving to Bulgaria?

I understand that with them all moving to the UK the country, and Romania, will be totally empty, at least according to the Daily Mail and other assorted tabloids

Aside from all your completely hypocritical ranting about immigrants while trying to become one yourself, did it occur to you that there are so many pool cleaning businesses for sale for a reason? Especially as fall approaches.

As for Florida, when you're there as a tourist it looks a lot different to when you're there as a resident. It's known for having one of the most underfunded education systems in the country, healthcare is going to cost you a fortune and won't be much better than the NHS. And yes, it's full of foreigners. A lot of them British, so perhaps they don't count as immigrants in your book...

Step 1: Buy a pool cleaning business
Step 2:
Step 3: Profit and visa!!!!

Frankly it can't go wrong.

You realise you have answered your own ideas,

Pool Cleaning, lots for sale, why, because there are so many doing it, and maybe employing illegals, that they quickly drive others out of business, then others come along and drive them out. Sounds like a certain bottomless money pit to me.

Regarding the comments on immigration and me being hypocritical, I have money and want to work or even buy a business, most that come to UK are their for benefits and free health after paying in nothing, and we have pensioners who fought for the country dying of cold because they cannot afford to put the fire on, as we give to those who don't deserve.

What i have witnessed in the us is they look after the old and servicemen and seem to want to look after each other.

Casual racism aside, you'd be shocked at how many vets end up on the streets in the US, and how many pensioners cant afford the basics. Social Security isn't exactly a golden handout.

Someone once said to me that the UK and the US have the same sh*t, just in a different bucket. I tend to agree.

Except in the US, the government doesn't give you a bucket, you have to buy your own!

Now you really *do* sound like you've been reading the Daily Mail (and even more worryingly, believing it!!). That's not remotely true if you actually look at the figures, only 6% of foreign nationals are claiming benefits, and government stats show that those born abroad are 2.5 times less likely to claim benefits than those born in the UK.

In any event, at the moment it doesn't sound like there is a visa to suit your situation (as has been explained above, buying a business and going over on an E2 would be far from ideal with children), but good luck with it.

You are having a laugh if you think the old and service members are looked after. When I was a caseworker (can't find a job in my field currently, so in retail with no benefits) several elderly blind on my caseload would share with me that a lot of months they would have to choose between food and medication. They may have only eaten three times in a week (and afforded medication) or been without their glaucoma medication for a few months (but had groceries for the month) which is very dangerous regarding their remaining eyesight. Some elderly are forced to eat pet food to get by--not an exaggeration.

Just out of interest, where does your 18 year old figure in your plans? If they're going to continue in education you're going to have to budget for education costs, at out of state rates. To get a basic bachelor's degree at some point they'd have to transition to a student visa of their own. I'm not sure how, of even if, they'd be covered under your E-2, but if they' be allowed to work, it would be difficult to find decent work, or any work, as a foreign school leaver in the US.
