Well Mrs G1ant was born here and has lived here all her life apart from the last seven years when she was slumming it in Yorkshire.

Any ideas where to start with health insurance to cover us until Mrs G1ant gets a job. Two of us plus 12 year old arriving in two weeks.

I started a similar post on health insurance. An agent called John Costa (avoid!!) was offering very competitive rates through Lloyds of London. He was using an intermediary called MNU, who have strict qualifying criteria. Mr Costa's criteria bent the rules somewhat but the original policies seem to be aimed at transitory situations. If you arrange the policy before you arrive in the US, it look like you are covered. I'm not making a recommendation but it may be worth looking into as a temporary measure.
