OK, this disqualifies me but I don't give a fig. Check out freeze-frame planes landing at Logan Airport in Boston. Scroll to the south-east and north-west for the queue in the traffic pattern.

I'll take your word for it :D

It is pretty cool, but a bit hit and miss in places...and the watermark is a bit annoying, not that I don't blame them though :)

The Sandwich Islands

On his third voyage of discovery, Captain James Cook of Great Britain visited the Hawaiian Islands and named them the Sandwich Islands in honor of his friend and supporter, John Montague, the 4th Earl of Sandwich and first lord of the Admiralty. Though Cook found Hawaii an excellent reprovisioning stop, it's not likely this included "sandwiches".

Re: google Maps competition

speaking of the google maps, here's a story about the fad if anyone's interested:

Surprises Lurk in Satellite Snaps -
For many years, Mike Leeds has been road-tripping from his home in Portland, Oregon, to Nevada's Black Rock Desert for the Burning Man arts festival.

So last week, when Google announced its new Maps service, which includes the ability to view and navigate with high-resolution satellite images, Leeds couldn't resist tracing his 500-mile route, one screen at a time, to see what he drives by on his annual round trip. He never expected that the last of his "45 miles to the click" route images would show, in great detail, the early setup of Burning Man. ...
