Some of you were wondering when the images were taken. Go to the link named "Images and Data" on this page for information.

It is pretty cool, but a bit hit and miss in places...and the watermark is a bit annoying, not that I don't blame them though :) |

Cheslar Park, Canyonlands National Park, Utah. Where I was happily scraping snow off my tent yesterday morning while ignoring anything to do with royal weddings, funerals, impending deaths of Rover, or anything else that might have been occuring. :p

Re: google Maps competition
If you drag this one south a bit you can see the Washington Monument and it's shadow. It shows that the satellite was actually south of the monument when the pic was taken. Just a little interesting note........... |

Though Cook found Hawaii an excellent reprovisioning stop, it's not likely this included "sandwiches". |

The Houseboat Marina at Lake Powell, AZ and the dam that holds all the water in just outside Page, AZ. An amazing place, often used for making Western and Sci-Fi movies, not to mention a lot of Porn in the thousand of hidden little anchorages and beaches. |

Re: google Maps competition
speaking of the google maps, here's a story about the fad if anyone's interested:
Surprises Lurk in Satellite Snaps - For many years, Mike Leeds has been road-tripping from his home in Portland, Oregon, to Nevada's Black Rock Desert for the Burning Man arts festival. So last week, when Google announced its new Maps service, which includes the ability to view and navigate with high-resolution satellite images, Leeds couldn't resist tracing his 500-mile route, one screen at a time, to see what he drives by on his annual round trip. He never expected that the last of his "45 miles to the click" route images would show, in great detail, the early setup of Burning Man. ... http://www.wired.com/news/technology...,67190,00.html |
