Going for CITIZENSHIP
A good time to go for it ...
"The cost of becoming a U.S. citizen could increase by 80 percent late this spring, from $330 to $595, federal Immigration officials announced this morning" |
Re: Going for CITIZENSHIP
Cheers Ray, Looks like green cards are going from $325 to $905

Re: Going for CITIZENSHIP
You can find it all here, page 85.
http://www.uscis.gov/files/nativedoc...oposedRule.pdf BTW, the processing times quoted will give you some comic relief. These are proposed changes, not actual. They still have a long way to go to be approved. But, regardless of whether USCIS gets their way this time, the writing's on the wall. Might want to get those apps in real soon... |

Re: Going for CITIZENSHIP
I have been here on and off for about 17 years and still have not got US citizenship. The first time I looked into it, it was about $200 and I couldn't afford it then.
There is not much I haven't been able to do without it, so I probably won't bother. |

Re: Going for CITIZENSHIP
As long as you have nothing to leave in your will your ok .,..
Oh really? I have an American husband and a child. Does that mean if I don't become a citizen my will is invalid? |

I don't think that's correct. It's just that non-citizens don't get the same inheritance tax breaks.

Does anyone actually know? I once looked at the IRS website and recoiled in horror, so if someone has actually done to homework - or knows someone who has - I'd be ever sooooooooooo grateful! :) (Okay, I didn't mean THAT grateful... :p) |

There is not much I haven't been able to do without it, so I probably won't bother. Altho' you could always file a QDOT.... This gets really complicated, because most of the states want a share of that estate too. check out - http://www.marketwatch.com/News/Stor...&siteid=google |
Re: Going for CITIZENSHIP
It isn't that my hubby is wealthy, but we own our own business and I would say we are reasonably comfortable. I am definately going to look into the citizenship thing now. We are still pretty young and aren't planning on dying just yet, but you never know.
Thanks for all this info. It has certainly woken me up.:) |
