Getting through Customs/Immigration faster at US airports - MPC App

I do the same as tht, applying for renewal as soon as allowed, and was approved within a couple of weeks with no interview required. I have quite a long list of countries visited or lived in, and that includes what is currently considered an axis country so I don’t think that is the issue for the delay. Has your passport been renewed since your original application and did you keep that information updated in the GE system? If not, that could cause a glitch. They state that new applications can take up to 11 months and I suspect if you let it expire you pretty much go through the new process. Some people say that reaching out to their congressional rep moves things along. In any case anyone waiting 9 months or more can call 877 227 5511 to ask that their application be expedited, different people have had different levels of success with that but it’s definitely worth trying. They used to let you do that after four months of waiting, but now it’s up to nine, so likely your wait is not uncommon right now, although hopefully not typical. The overall lesson is renew before expiry, and keep you passport information up to date.

Maybe they treat expired more like a new application, I have always done the renewal as soon as it is an option, I think 364 days before it expires and if it’s not approved you get an extra 24 months. Credit card reimbursements are every 4 years anyway so no extra cost to go for it after 4 years. Have you traveled anywhere less “vanilla I had places like Turkey and India but no “axis†countries…

Finally got my GE renewal processed and accepted. Received the email notification this week. I presume I will receive a new card through the mail? There was no mention of that.

I don’t think I got a new card in the mail when I renewed, might have but I don’t remember getting one. In any case I have not needed one these past few years. Facial recognition seems to be all they need.

My old card has an expiration of Jan 2023. I see there is an option to report your old card as lost or stolen to get a replacement. Don't want to do that as my card is neither. But I assumed they would issue a new one since my old one is expired?

in other GE news, just used it in EWR today… now you just have your photo taken at the machine and no questions…. Forgot to remove my cap, and it still found me. Officer at the exit was was not checking passport like they used to and no receipt for customs… so with GE it was about 5 minutes from the aircraft door to kerb side…

that is to make it acceptable as ID at the federal level after the DMV has certified your a USC, both GE and GC are already federally issued ID so no need for a star.

Exactly - in 40 years (with LOTS of Intl. travel, and most of it as an LPR) I've never had a bad entry through SFO! I've had nightmares coming in through Miami, JFK, Philly, etc.
We landed circa 5pm, so it was certainly 'prime time', but still. The lines were all the way down that long, long corridor that gently rises up from the gates to the immigration section - never seen a line there before, not even for 'ordinary non-citizens'.

Not related to MPC, but have you noticed that for the past several years there seems to be absolutely no attempt to 'screen' anyone's baggage on entry from a 'customs' perspective? It used to be the case that you would walk through some checkpoints and have the chance of being randomly selected for a bag search. Or at least be asked questions, like 'any fruits?' etc. It seems like there's just nothing any longer. Is this because the 'x-ray' (or whatever) scanning is so much better now?

In the UK, I don't think I've ever seen anyone getting stopped in the 'green lane' - customs enforcement always seemed very lax. But then again I am usually travelling back from Europe/US so perhaps enforcement is stricter from other parts of the world?
