GC holder jailed for drug offence
Thought you might like to hear about this. Brit, married to a USC, lived and worked here for 35 years, on a green card. On way home from bar, in Sparta, New Jersey in 2002, stopped on suspicion of DWI, and police found third of a joint of marijuana in his car. He was fined, put on a year's probation, and ordered to attend drug information classes for being in possession of 0.8 grams of marijuana. In May, he was held for several hours at JFK, on returning home from a work trip to Italy. Eventually allowed in to USA, but told to return on November 12 for deferred inspection, when he was arrested and sent to the big house. November 24, appearing in immigration court for bail hearing, judge ruled he was subject to mandatory detention until his case is heard, maybe March at earliest. His attorney is trying to broker a deal with ICE for him to receive parole. Attorney says there are lots of other cases involving minor offences and people think they are fine, coming in and out of the country, until ICE catces up with them.
