I'm in Texas and ours was $540 Need to look into it as this is our first "winter" in this house and this seems a hell of a lot of money to be heating/lighting a house where it doesn't often get below zero

Re: Gas/Electric bill!!!
My gas bill was $213 for December. It's been subzero for what seems like half of that time, so I was pleased with that. Electric was $62. Have had the fire going as well some evenings, that costs me $80 for a cord of wood, which lasts for the winter

that seems way too high here in Dallas gas $155 electricity $225. The xmas month is always a bit more as all the crimbo lights are on and we have a spa outside which is set to 89 degrees.

Re: Gas/Electric bill!!!
Ours was $450 for Gas/Electric combined. Winter is always more expensive - our summer bills tend to be in the $100-$150 range, even with the AC.

Re: Gas/Electric bill!!!
Our electricity bill was $278 this month which is a hell of a jump as it was about $125 in the summer. I really need to get rid of the stack of soggy firewood in the backyard so I can get some more and see how well our fireplace heats the house.

Wow a lot of you have really high bills.
My electric was $69 and gas was $55. The gas is on a year round plan as it's propane and they deliver once or twice a year.

Do any of your utility companies have a budget billing option? I've been on budget billing for a while, its not means tested either....

December 08: Gas $130, electric $88.
As our house is on the market, we have just had a 12-month average done for our realtor. Gas $45, electric $110.

It would really help get more 'use' out of these figures if people would indicate their city (or at least, state) in their profiles ... DeeDee - where do you live? Knowing the 'type' of dwelling would help too!
Mine, December - Gas $204, Elec $101, for a 2700 sq. ft 4 BR house, occupied all day (ie, g/f works from home).
I'm a big wimp and like to be warm, so thermostat is set to 70 all day till 11pm. Summers run cheaper with virtually no gas, and we only run A/C ~10 days of the year.

Re: Gas/Electric bill!!!
Good grief. What sort of houses do some of you folks live in? Last month, for days at a time, the temp was below 10F at night and not above 25F during the day. The gas and electric bills were both around the $90 mark. That's for a 4 bed, 1900 sq. ft. ranch.
