Furniture rentals
Though I've found threads on the pros and cons of renting furniture, I've not seen any prices - nor do the online shops offer prices.
The situation is that I've been unable to sell our 4-piece suite (3-seater sofa, 2-seater, 1-seater, and puffee). We could ship it in the container for an additional £800. It's quite a nice suite and I'd otherwise just ship it for that price, except for the fact we'd be without sofas for 9-12 weeks. Either I find some crappy furniture on craigslist in the interim or hire furniture. If that's likely to cost hundreds then it's not going to be worth it. I've never hired furniture so I have absolutely no idea what kind of prices we're talking! Any ballpark figures appreciated.

Re: Furniture rentals
This site gives prices for packages for northern California so that should give you some what of an idea. Unfortunately the cheapest package offered includes living room, dinning room, and bedroom for $550 per month for a 3 month lease.

You also have to pay $150 for delivery and pickup if the lease is less than 6 months.

I've never had issues with it. There are generally three price points student normal and solid wood. Take your £800 for not shipping the stuff plus $500 for not renting and you can easily buy solid stuff from Ikea and still have cash left over.

Utter rip off if you're buying to own. However, in your circumstances they might be just the ticket. No credit required.

Tends to be shit, expensive and not very apparent for the cost as they tend to ding you on the tiniest of things...for a living room set, couple hundred a month perhaps?

They are total shitty companies -- I agree! But if you want a living room set for a month or so, they could actually be just the ticket.

Re: Furniture rentals
Do you really wanna sit on furniture that has previously been used by people who are the type to rent furniture?

Re: Furniture rentals
That did cross my mind! Some throws and maybe leather(ette) "wipe clean" couches might suffice. Anyway, Pickfords are now going to take our sofas as well (eek - tomorrow!) so I'll manage somehow.
